I hate my job. (vent)

So yesterday I went and saw my OB and then scheduled the appt for 20 weeks to find out the gender. I went into work today and let my boss know I needed June 21st off and before I could say why she tells me no, saying they already have 4 ppl out that day... WHY IN EFF'S SAKE would you let 4 ppl off in the first place?? She gave me attitude about wanting this day off. I walked out of her office crying. I made sure to take the day off ASAP since my recent review said I take off days too soon without enough notice, which the reason for that was bc I was dealing with not knowing if THIS would be a pregnancy that would continue so appointments where touch and go.

From what I've heard she has had a stick up her butt all day, so I plan on talking to the owner about working something out with me. I DO NOT want to switch the date because the next day we are seeing DH's family and I would like to be able to tell them.

Do you need the whole day off? Maybe you could only work part of the day that day, at least that would cover some of it. With mine I just leave for like two hours and them come back.

I am sorry you boss is being inflexible. Is there anyway you could try to get approval for a couple of hours instead of the full day? Or maybe try to schedule your appointment earlier in the week? My department only lets two people off any given day (assuming you dont have the same job function-hoops hoops and more hoops) so for many of my appointments I have actually been just taking the appointment time off and making up time-I am also currently hoarding my time off too. Hope you are able to resolve the appointment conflict.

It's at noon, and its going to be ultrasound and talk to dr and the office for this is a couple towns over, SO I am going to see with the owner if I can just come in early for someone elses shift and then leve at 11 to get there on time. I am learning that I need to talk with the owner to work things out.

Your boss sounds completely unreasonable in how she responded. A simple, no, we already have 4 people out would suffice.

Did you talk to her about days around there that would work? Then you could call your doctor's office and reschedule.

That is crummy. Sad There is a way for your boss to have tactfully gone about it.

From a bosses perspective though, I unfortunately can't always grant my people the time off requested. We have very set policies in place though for how many people can be off on a certain day within our district (not even just at my branch specifically). I try to be very flexible with the schedule and accommodate time off as requested if possible, but I unfortunately can't always say yes.

Could you see if one of those 4 people who are off could switch days off with you? Or if they would be willing to come in so you could have it off instead?

This sounds like an avenue to pursue, but maybe your boss needs to ask one of those 4 people. Definitely sounds like she exploded because there were already more requesting off than should have been allowed. I hope they didnt' request off for vacations
