A friend of mine just told me about this. Has anyone else heard of it? Is anyone else experiencing it? My son is 4 months today and since we've brought him home from the hospital, he's been sleeping like a champ. This past week though, it's been awful. He wakes up at 3 every night and cries unless he is touching us somehow. Last night, I had to sleep with my hand in his bassinet so he could wrap his hand around my finger. Super sweet and melts my heart but I can't sleep like that forever! hahaha
Is anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone tried sleep training yet?
Re: 4 Month Wakeful Period?
My DS turned 4 months May 9th and we are on day 4 of the waking every 2-3 hours. it sucks. She use to have a long stretch of 6 or 7 hours- not anymore! I dunno if it is teething or a combo of both though? She is also trying really really hard to roll over and I know when ever they hit a mile stone like that it can jack up their sleep.
We started ST about a week before her 4 months and it went well, she still eats twice a night so I don't mind getting up for those feedings- other then that she would whimper a little an put herself back to sleep (she sleeps in her crib).
Could be teething, could be milestones, could be hunger. Could be a phase.
My first did the same thing right before 4 months. I believe it was hunger, because we started her on cereal in the evenings after her 4-month checkup and the pedi's okay, and that solved it.
Yep, in the same boat here. DD was sleeping for 5-7 hours at a time, but then right before she turned 4 months old, started waking more. It's been about a month now since it started, and I'm getting up 2-3 times to feed her during the night. She usually goes right back to sleep, which is good, although she occasionally seems wide awake at some ungodly hour and mommy is never happy about it! Really hoping this phase will pass soon, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Also, if you're EBF, this article offers an explanation for this phase:
