September 2012 Moms

I have an early UO

Reading the name post I realized I might actually have a UO this week.

I don't like the nickname Emmy. It was my nickname as a kid and I hated it. Luckily the only people that still call me that are aunts.

Re: I have an early UO

  • I don't have a NN at all and am jealous. My mom hated all shortened variations so I have always been a full name person. The only NNs I have ever had were just my last name on sports teams.

Because of this I call L every possible variation of her name that I can think of. I started making sure I at least use part of her name instead of Bean or something so she can at least try to learn her name.

    Kid #1 - 09/03/12
    Kid #2 - maybe???
    Diagnosed with Severe Ashermans
Hysteroscopy #10 - scar tissue grew back reblocking my right tube
#11 or IVF with scarring still inside?

I don't mind Emmy but not for an actual name. I know a LO who's Emi and to me when she's looking for a job at 25-30 she's going to sound ridiculous! Emi is for little girls and old ladies not in between. I have loved the name Emerson since well forever so if we have a DD she'll most like be Em or Emmy but not when she gets older. I like the idea of a NN and a proper name. Best of both worlds!

I do like nn in general. My dad is starting to call Chloe, Chlo Bomb.....I find it funny.

Yep! Most people call me Em for short and I love it but it is nice to be able to fall back on a proper name for school/profession environments.

I used to call Emma "Emmy Lou Who" when she was a baby because of her hair. But that stopped when she was about 8 months old. I would definitely not call her Emmy now, but I do call her Ems sometimes. And Beckett is Becks occasionally.

My manager is a Christie. She has had people ask her what her full name was in big meetings and not take her seriously because of it.

DH wanted to name Emilia Emme. I told him that wasn't going to happen. We do call her Emmy right now, but she can fall back on her full name or another nickname like Millie or Loa should she so choose.

Sorry for a double blank post, But we did just that.  DH GM has always called everyone by their middle name (so annoying).  We named our son Toby after DH GF, she can't bear to call him that so middle name of James and he is called TJ by her.

    Ditto.

Likewise, I really hate when people don't 'respect' a nn that someone has.

Like me. Please stop calling me Stephanie, *** coworker.

So, I named daughter Katherine, but specifically wanted her to go by Kate?

We went that route because we assumed that a majority of people would assume her name was Katherine, so that would be the easiest to "deal with" when she is older. I work with a Kate that's not a Katherine and I hear her explain that out to people every couple days...

I have a cousin Kate that is just Kate and a cousin Maggie who's just Maggie. They each seem strange to me. They seem too young of a name for when they get older. With Katherine she has the option of a "proper" first name. I agree!

  • Weird story. When I was pg with DD, we got an elective 3D/4D ultrasound. When we were watching the video at home with family, DS pointed to the TV & just kept saying "Emmy" over & over.

MH was like, "that's it! We need to name her Emmy".

I shut that down b/c while I like Emily & Emiline, MH wanted Emmy as the actual name & I didn't like it.

eta- andplusalso, I wasn't about to let my 19 month old baby name my second baby!
