Changing table for toddlers

My LO is about to exceed the weight limit for his changing table. The limit is 25lbs. I still like changing him on a changing table since it saves my back. Does anyone know of a changing table that is good for toddlers or heavy babies? One that I can use until he is potty trained.

Re: Changing table for toddlers

  • Could you get one of those changing pads to put on the dresser?  We never had an actual changing table, just used a changing pad on her dresser.  Its worked great, however we are using it less and less.  Really the only time I use it is after baths.  Most of the time its just easier to change her on the floor.

We used the dresser. I can stand on it, so it's got to have a pretty good weight limit.

Is there a weight limit for dressers? I could find it in the specs for dressers I saw online.

If you buy a good quality, solid wood dresser, it should be fine for even an adult to sit on.  Sit on it in the store and see how it holds up.  If you buy a shiiitty one, then who knows.  If cost is an issue, look at garage sales, consignment sales/shops or resale shops.

We're using a dresser that was DH's grandparents.  It's solid wood and very heavy.  LO can jump up and down on it and it won't budge.  I don't do floor or bed changes unless there's no other option.

As a side note, you need to secure whatever you use to the wall.  Even heavy dressers will tip, if the LO moves it right, and they can be deadly.

I agree with this.  My daughter has a solid wood dresser.  I can sit/stand on it without issue either.  I honestly couldn't imagine any dresser not being able to hold a 30/40 lb toddler.

This is what we use and will probably continue to use until LO is out of diapers. He behaves a lot better on his changing table than he does when I change him on the floor.

I am still using mine. I never thought of a weight limit.

Me neither. I can't even find one in the specs of my changing table.

I moved the changing pad to the dresser a few months ago and am using that now for changing, but the weight limit on our Graco Sarah table was 35 lbs. We bought it from Walmart. I imagine the other Graco changing tables there would have similar specs.

Or what about a table that's made for TVs? This cheapy here holds up to 50 lbs. It's narrow and top heavy, so you'd still definitely have to anchor it to the wall to keep it from tipping, but it would be great as a changing table and then you could put toys or something underneath.

  • call me a bad mom but we will probably just use the one we have with a 25 lb weight limit until 30 lbs, which given the slow toddler growth rate should be close to potty training time.

im all about carseat safety, etc but I find it hard to believe that a 30 lb baby would destroy a table that can safely hold 25 lbs.

  • I just have a receiving blanket that I lay on the floor or on our bed. Bed saves my back and no purchase necessary.

  • Once the kids got a certain age and weight I just moved them to the floor. It's much easier than trying to lay them down on a changing table/dresser.
  • We bought an entertainment center as her changing table from the get-go. We wanted something that would last beyond her diaper days and it's worked great! A little more pricey than a standard changing table but worth it! It's solid wood with doors and shelves and she will be able to use it for a tv/radio later on!
