Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Morning feeding ?

Hi ladies, quick question for you all, do you give LO a bottle/BF first thing in the morning when they wake up? We have been waking LO up, changing her and feeding her but recently she has struggled finishing a 6 oz bottle. I am wondering if it takes her a bit after waking up to get hungry. I was curious if we should start giving her breakfast (usually yogurt) first and then a bottle a couple of hours later?

She is almost 11 months old and we are trying to give her 24 oz of formula/day in 4-6 oz bottles. Also wondering if/how we should start weaning her?

Any thoughts or experiences you have to share would be helpful. TIA!

Re: Morning feeding ?

  • I have my twins trained for breakfast.  We get up, get changed and then have yogurt.  They each get one container of yogurt.  After that they have a 4oz bottle.  They are very used to this and get upset if any part of it is different.

Mine only have 3 bottles a day.  The 4oz in the morning.  8oz as a meal around 3-4 and a 6oz at night.  I'm going to wean them off the 8oz to actual food next month.  This month we are getting a taste for different foods.  Right now they like veggies that were cooked in chicken broth.  I have low sodium chicken broth.  I wish they made actual soup for babies but I might just start making it myself so I can really limit the salt.  They really like that chicken flavor.

  • It's recommended to give a bottle/BF before offering any solids. Maybe offer a 4oz bottle instead?

LO started doing this too at around 10 months. I still give him the 6 oz though. I give him 4 oz, then he gets a little bit of a break (about 20-30 min) and then he finishes it. Then 2 hrs later he has breakfast.

  • Some mornings Olivia wants some milk when she first wakes up, other days, she's fine until breakfast time.

  • LO is not a morning eater.  If he wakes crying he will down a whole bottle, but if I have to wake up, I have to give him a bit (10 min or so) and even then sometimes its a struggle to get him to take 4oz.

I try and feed him as much as I can before daycare
