Stroller for the beach? Rust, sand, etc

Does anyone have any experience good/bad with strollers at the beach? My parents have a beach house in Hilton Head that we go to a couple times a year and one thing I've noticed is that we've ruined several dog leashes from rust and sand. Not getting them wet - just leaving them on the porch for a couple days, etc. This made me worry that our $200+ stroller investment is going to get ruined in the first beach trip. Also, in addition to rust the sand in the wheels worries me. Will it get into the bearings or axels and cause problems?

  • I live on the coast and this is a big issue over hear. We make sure we either bring in our stroller within a few hours of using it or put it in the car . It's a pita but really is the only way to insure the stroller stays in good shape. Sometimes my hubby rinses of the wheels and such and that's when we put it into the garage to air dry before putting it in the car.

  • I have a mountin buggy that I left outside for a year (under a covered porch but open air) and it has minimal rust and is fine.  I live on the coast and have taken then buggy to the beach a few times and never bothered rinsing it off.  But my buggy was made to be all terrain so there's not a whole lot of metal that will rust on it.

  • @jschmidt6 just curious what you ended up going with for your beach stroller. My sister brought her Uppababy to HHI once and the wheels started to rust, since then they've always rented BOB's while they're visiting. I'm thinking of just buying a BOB and leaving it at my parent's place & would love to hear what you went with and if it's worked out for you.
  • What about a wagon for the beach? They sell gardening type ones with larger wheels that would probably do ok in the sand. I've never seen anyone successfully push a stroller in the sand, but have seen people dragging them backwards.

  • We go to Hilton Head frequently. We use our BOB for the beach. I like to run with it on the beach or use it as a pack mule to haul all the beach stuff ( I feel like I bring the house every time we go to the beach). I've never left it out over night though. I always store it in my car or our garage. No rust.
