Hi ladies! Just curious if anyone out there is from Norman. We are expecting our first in December. Does anyone have an cheers or jeers for area baby related things (day cares, stores, etc). It's just my husband and me here, all of my family is in St. Louis and his is in NYC so we're very nervous being on our own!
Re: Norman Moms
I'm in OKC, but I've lived in this state all my life and know it like the back of my hand. Norman is a great town, but it's a college town. Come up north a little to OKC and you will find such boutiques as Storkland, and Gran Bambino, which offer furniture and european collections of things that aren't popular in the states yet.
I sent my daughter to La Petite, not in Norman, but at 9 months of age before she could even walk she was put in the toddler room, left unattended on a chair and fell off causing a concussion, this was after less serious falls off of riding toys and swings in their playground.
Be very careful with Oklahoma daycares both of you. In home is the way to go in this state! it is a little known fact that DHS here requires care providers to lock sick babies in thier high chairs and not so much as touch them until their parents arrive. Also they won't wash anything and they won't let the babies sleep with blankets but they keep their room freezing cold. My daughter had multiple ear infections and a permanant runny nose. I only sent her to conventional daycare for 2 months.
Just remember the higher the rating the less actual care your child is going to get. They will be treated like a number and all they are to those people is a paycheck. Go in home. I can't tell you so much about norman in home, but I can tell you that you want to think baby sitter and not accredited. OK has the worst child care and school systems in the US.
