our Lo has always been a little on the clumsy side and little less coordinated than his peers. when he was younger he went to PT from 11 months till about 18 months when EI determined he no longer qualified. Everything seemed ok, but I am now becoming concerned that his trips and falls are caused by something other than just being clumsy. Adding to this is the fact that he runs on his toes imagine instead of bending at the knee to run, he sort of looks like his gallopping, it's cute but also concerning. Anyway, I dont really have anyone to compare him to in his age group to know if this is something I should bring up to EI again or normal for a 21month old. A few examples of "clumsy" would be running down the hallway and banging into the wall, constantly falling forward on his hands, when he looks up he loses his balance which caused him to fall face first into my dining room table legs, if he turns his head whiel running or walking he veers in the opposite direction. These are just a few example which like I said could be normal of a 21 month old, just wondering how your LO's around this age are doing with this sort of thing
Re: clumsy or something else?
There was a slight chance that my son had a tethered cord... we found out he didn't when he was a newborn but the drs. said that if we didn't catch it toe walking and falling could be one of the signs. Not trying to scare you but it was one of the signs we were alerted to. It's likely the drs. would have caught this if it were a possibility by now though.
My son is clumsy at times but it seems like he just moves too fast for his own good and less of a coordination issue. Kids fall all the time, it could easily be nothing.
