Steroids for cough??

So DS has had a cough for like a month. Very slight. I've taken him in and they havens listened to his lungs and its always been fine. Then this weekend we all came down with a wavy duty cold. DS cough turned into a croup sounding cough yesterday an into last night. Though he was able to sleep through the night and feed no problem. He's definitely sick though. Our pedi have us steroids for three nights to help open up his airway. Though she said his lungs were clear. I hate giving medicine and especially a steroid. Has anyone had to give Lo steroids? Any side effects I should expect?

    We've given steroids via nebulizer with no side effects noted. It was also for cough, and she was about 3 weeks old. I've never done them orally, so I have no advice.

    We had to give our oldest steroids as an infant for a cough/wheezing. It was for three days and he was fine. No side effects noted. Good luck!
