Have any of you tried the 3 day potty training before LO turned 2? Can you share your experience? My DD shows all the signs of readiness for the 3 day method that I've read a few articles on. I'm picking up the book this week.
When she was 8 months, I had a week off with her and I was really consistent with putting her on the potty and we got to all poops on the potty. I'm confident that if I were home with her full time instead of working, she'd already be trained, but oh well . . . she happily goes most days at least once on the potty and I think if we committed to the 3 day plan, we could wrap this whole thing up nicely by 18 months. Any experience you can share?
We cloth diaper if that makes a difference.
btw - not aiming to make this a debate about when is best to potty train. I'm asking for advice on the 3 day method from those who've tried it. Thanks!
Re: potty train in 3 days?
While your LO crapped on the potty at 8 months, you have to realize that it has nothing to do with potty training. A huge part of it is muscle maturity and being able to hold it.
This. I think you're rushing her.
ETA Also, using the three day method, they need to know how to walk, take their own pants off, have dry diapers for hours at a time to show bladder control, and be able to tell you when they need to go. Dd is almost two and we aren't rushing her into anything she isn't ready for.
I appreciate that you all mean well, but I'm really hoping to hear from people who have used the method. If you used the traditional American approach to potty training, that's a totally valid choice, but not the same one that many parents make around the world. My DH was trained by 15 months and where he's from, most kids are trained by 1-1.5 and it's unheard of for a healthy 2 year old to still be in diapers. From what I understand, that used to be the norm here as well, before disposable diapers became so popular, so I very much appreciate your intentions to protect my child from being bulldozed into premature potty training, but that doesn't have to mean waiting til 2.5/3. Most Americans can only imagine what a train wreck it would be to apply the same techniques they used on their 3 year old on a 1.5 year old but I'm not asking about that; I'm asking about experience training a young toddler, as is done in many, if not most, parts of the world. I would just ask my MIL, but she stayed at home full time so she was able to take a more elimination communication approach. I work full time.
If you've used the 3 day method, please share your experience
Thanks everyone!
We used the 3 day method with my 27 month old, who was definitely ready, and had success. Although it took about 6 days to be completely daytime trained. We started on Wednesday last week and he had no accidents all day yesterday for the first time. Today we went to his tumbling class as he successfully told me when he had to go and managed to hold it in the car until we got home, so I'm considering him finally PT'd (although I certainly expect he will have accidents for a little while).
