Tylenol

I ended up giving Benjamin some Tylenol after he woke every hour from 7 to 3. He then slept till 7, so I am assuming his gums were hurting. But, I realized last night that I have an old dosage amount from his dr based on his 12.5lb weight. We have his 6 mo appt Wednesday so I'll know his weight then, and will ask for the correct amount. What dosage are you giving your LO's? This is the 2nd time I've given him Tylenol. It's always a last resort. The first time I did it was because of his 103 fever.

Re: Tylenol

  • C is 20 lbs so the dosage is 3.75 ml, which we've been resorting too at night lately. He is cutting teeth and has a cold that will not go away. But usually if we do half a dose it seems to take the edge off.

  • I've been giving 3mL when he needs it, but you have a good point, that is what I was told to give him when he was 4 months old. I didn't even ask if it was different when he was 6 months. He is on the smaller side, so I think we will stick with the 3 for now. It seems to work for him. I have only used it when he spikes a fever, and that is enough to drop it down to at least 99 every time.

  • I was last told 2.5 so I'm sure he can take at least 3 now. I just left a msg for the telephone advice nurse just in case he requires it again tonight. Poor guy. I wish I knew that that's why he was up so much. I haven't tried any new foods lately or anything so I ran out of ideas haha.

This chart matches what my pedi and the ER have given me.

This is the chart I use as well and matches what the pedi gave us.

  • My pedi referred me here. https://www.askdrsears.com/topics/childhood-illnesses/medicine-cabinet  If you scroll all the way to the bottom Acetaminophen is listed.  A dosage chart basis strength of the version you are giving LO and current weight is given.  Ibeuprofen is also on there.  So helpful as I feel like the doses are always changing.  And this breaks it down even further by weight that any other doseage charts I have found.

  • LO is 20lbs and we were told to give him 3.75ml.

  • It really depends on the concentration of the Tylenol you have. My 16lb baby gets 1ml of an 80mg/ml liquid.
