Sippy cup or straw cup or something else?

My LO will drink some water, but he will only drink it from a cup. He sees us drinking that way and wants to drink that way too. He will only drink a little. I've tried two different types of sippy cups (one is gerber and the other is a nubby) and he is only interested in playing with them. Would a straw cup work better or should I try another sippy cup? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    If he likes it, I would go with it. I mean, it may be messy, but it's great for him to learn how to use one. We used to let DD1 do that, at around 9 months, and then at 12 months, she really got into using sippies anyways.

    We're going to use Doidy cups. They are meant to teach them how to use regular cups without as much mess. They are slanted and have handles so babies can use them easier.

    My little guy loves drinking from an open cup, but we were hoping he would take a sippy so it would be easier to drink water on the go. 

    We had good luck getting a cheapo sippy cup with no valve (the water just falls out) and he realized that water comes out of it. After practicing with this one for every meal for a few days, he figured out how to suck, and we transitioned to a sippy with a valve.

    Agreed.

    My LO only "drinks" from a small cup (shot glass size).  He only chews on teh spout of the sippy cup even with water in it.  I figure this is a good thing because I won't have to wean him off the sippy cup!

    I have the Playtex ones for my niece. They don't have an actual "spout" rather the valved spout is even with the side of the cup so it mimics a real cup better. I'd stay far away from cups with silicone or soft spouts because she would just chew right through them when she was teething!
