Office workers...what are your summer shoes?

I went shopping this weekend for flat, dressier black sandal type shoes and found NOTHING. Part of it is that I have wide feet, the other is that I couldn't find anything that would accomodate the swelling I know I'll have.

The dress code in my office is business casual. Open toed shoes are fine and some people wear dressier flip flops. I'm not opposed to that, but my feet tend to react to synthetic materials and it's not pleasant if you know what I mean.

Any other office workers having luck with summer dress shoes?

  • I wear dressy flip flops, but could probably get away with bedroom slippers since I typically do not see anyone and I am almost always the only one here. I also have wide feet.

I used to wear wedges but I cannot keep balance anymore and I do not want to fall down the stairs!

Have you tried Zappos.com ?? They have some cute stuff on there.

  • I always have good luck at Kohls finding dressier sandals and wider usually...I have quite a few dressier flip slops from Vera Wang and Chaps....btw Chaps have some of the comfiest shoes and I have small but wide feet as well and have not had any problems with them...GL!!
  • I'm looking, too. My feet are sweating and sticking in the flats I have now, and my feet haven't swelled enough yet to justify the flip-flops.  I've been using panty liners in the bottom of my shoes (I'm using more during pregnancy for various reasons than I've used in my entire life)!

  • I bought these in black and nude- they're cheap, super comfy, come in wide widths, and have held up really well. Two thumbs up

Those are super cute and look really comfy. BUT, they'd make my feel smell to the high heavens. I can't wear ballet flats because they're enclosed. My feet need to breathe!

I've been browsing but buying shoes online makes me nervous. Especially since my feet are wide.

  • I am having issues with this as well since my feet are starting to swell and it doesn't help that I have a warm office. I'm rotating between two pairs of open toed shoes/sandals and occasionally throwing in a flip flop. I love Natuaralizer shoes so I need to see if I can find some good deals. I usually get nervous as well buying shoes online but I've had pretty good luck with them and I believe they have free return shipping.

  • I'm wearing dressy flip flops. I normally wear a 9.5 so I bought a size 10 for the swelling.

  • Glad you posted this.  I usually wear cute strappy sandals with high, thin heels, so obviously that's a no go this summer.  I'll be checking out the suggestions made here!

  • 6pm.com usually has a good selection too. I'm sure you could always return them if you aren't happy with the size. Or try dsw!

I'm going to wear tennis shoes during summer - #1 bc my employer promotes well-being so I can, but #2, I had such bad swelling w/ DD, it's all I think I'll be comfortable in.

I do have these from Kohls though and so far so good. Wear them for work only. They're canvas and have stretched out considerably so I know they'll work great should I need them this summer...

If you are looking for wider sizes you might also think about looking at plus sized clothing stores since they generally only carry the wider sizes.

I wear normal width shoes; I was just looking for a "wide" version since I know the swelling in my feet will be out.of.control once it gets hotter out.

I may just end up in flip flops all summer. Being pregnant is considered a medical condition, right? Confused

  • I got a few pairs of cute "flatter" sandals from Cole Haan in 1/2 size up at the outlet.  They have they NIke Air soles so they are super comfy.  I also have some platform wedges that have been awesome...If I wear too flat shoes I get horrible cramps in my legs...I am a freak....So I settled for " platform wedges" that are not too high, and one pair I think they call "flatforms"?

I just bought patent leather, obviously fake leather, flip flops from Target this weekend. I struggled to find a cute pair of black ones that I liked and just took the plunge on them there. I'll probably resort to my reefs if and when my feet swell up.

This. Several of my flats are from Lane Bryant since they're wider. I have rheumatoid arthritis and when my feet flare they swell and I have a hard time with shoes.

Crocs have some CUTE shoes!  They are the only things I've been able to wear, and I bought more last week to help me get through the summer.

  • What about a pair of birkenstocks?

You could do something like this:

I have these in the tobacco oiled and they are heavenly.  Super comfy and they are cute.  Go with lots of stuff.  Better for your feet than flip flops and mine are 3 years old and look brand new.  Also, all the materials are natural materials.
