Pregnant after 35

Donated meds today

I still had a few packs of Bravelle left from my failed fertility treatments last summer.  We'd made the decision a while ago we were done with treatments even if this pregnancy didn't make it. But it took until now for me to finally make my way back to the clinic to donate them, like they were some kind of insurance policy or something.  Letting go of them felt like a milestone of sorts.

Have any of you others who underwent fert treatments donated extra meds or have plans to?

Re: Donated meds today

  • I gave away extra Lupron to someone on TTC board, donated Progesterone suppositories and some Vivelle dots nearing expiration to my clinic.  I made a commitment NOT to let anything expire just sitting in my home, there are too many women struggling to pay for fertility treatments and the medications that go with them.  I prefer not to use the OOP med program on IF board, because they only donate to those with NO insurance.  We paid >$2500 with each cycle just in medication copays and THAT is plenty per cycle if you end up doing many cycles.  I just ordered refills of my PIO, Estradiol and Prometrium and will donate whatever I have left when RE says that I no longer need to take them (about 3 weeks).

I hear ya. I wanted them to go to good use. The Bravelle didn't expire until March 2014 so I had some time.  Those costs do add up, the meds were the only thing that was covered for me.

  • I parted ways with my meds a few months ago, even though we never ended up doing ivf I had ordered all the meds in preparation for it and was fortunate enough to have most of it covered. I donated to my RE's office, I had my DH drop them off because there was no way I was going in there 6 months pregnant, they called a few hours later to thank me and tell me that they had so many women that needed donated meds that it was truly a gift. I was so happy to be able to do it, I just couldn't see the point of someone else not benefiting from it, but I'll admit I wanted to wait until I was well into 2nd Tri before I would give them up..

I just called ahead to find out when it was good for me to come in.  There wasn't anyone in the waiting room when I went in, so going at 6 months pg was NBD...but there's only one RE at the location I go to.

  • Thanks for posting this, I dind't know what to do with my extra drugs/needles, and was hoping to find someone who needed them. I told the nurses at the fertility clinic I would come by to visit when I got bigger so they could see me, so I'll take them in when I go.
