eliminating bottles

are you starting to get rid of bottles. Right now he has 4 bottles a day.  Yesterday I gave him one in the mornining and then put the formula in sippy cups for lunch nand dinner and didn't give him the before bed one since he tends to puke if he eats to much.  so now we are down to about 18 ounces a day.  I really want to be done around a year with bottles.

Re: eliminating bottles

  • Man, I've been scratching my head about how to start to wean her off over the next month. I've tried the sippy, but it just comes out too fast for her. She quickly loses interest in the sippy. She's on five bottles a day still. I'm trying to be more and more proactive about weaning her, but I haven't had any sort of progress yet.

this for me too.... Althought Parker is down to two bottles, one int the morning and one at bedtime for a total of 13 oz.  He eats solids for the rest.  I think at 11 months I'm going to try and just give breakfast at breakfast time and either no formula or cut it down to 4 oz.

  • After reading this post, I tried giving DS his pre-lunch bottle in a sippy cup. Wow, that made him mad! He still drinks 4 bottles a day, and I am not worried about reducing his ounces yet. He is refusing a lot of purees these days, and to be honest I have been lazy and daunted by the idea of fixing fresh veggies every day. I would rather he is still drinking a good amount of formula so that I know he's got his vitamins and minerals until I can get a better handle on healthy cooking. I guess I'll wait until his 1 year check-up to see what the pedi recommends about getting rid of bottles.

  • I feel like DD is drinking more formula then ever. I am going to drop her morning bottle soon. She only has maybe 2oz of that one... and then from there I will play it by ear and see how it goes. I am in no rush... my hope is to be bottle free by about 15 months. When we are done I am going to unceremoniously rid our house of these bottles. I use born free and they have way too many parts!

  • I'm frustrated with this. She takes a 4oz. bottle to go down for a nap, which is twice a day. She also has a 6 oz. bottle before bed. I would love to completely get rid of the naptime bottles asap but after 11 months of it then elimating, it's hard. We tried the sippy cup with formula, but like one of the other ladies said, it just comes out to fast and it's not a "relaxing" thing before naps.
