I've flown a lot with my girls. My recommendations for that age:

    1. Lots and lots of snacks. Bring little things that they eat one at a time - dried fruit, crackers, cheerios, etc...

    2. New toys, books, games - anything you think might hold his attention that he hasn't played with a million times. DD1 was obsessed with dogs at that age. We used to flip through the skymall catalog and look for pictures of dogs. We did this over and over again on flights.

    3. Get up and walk the aisles when the seat belt light is off.

    4. Schedule flights during a time they normally sleep (I'm guessing your flights are already scheduled, so this tip might not help).

    #1:  Yes to snacks!

#2:  Ditto SkyMall and dog/cat pictures!  Let them rip the SkyMall to shreds!  We got a lot of entertainment out of SkyMall...

#4:  DD has developed her mother's inability to sleep well on planes.  So I prefer to schedule during awake times (usually we leave first thing in the morning).  We just did a trip and the return flight had to be during her afternoon nap and we got no sleep and instead just a really cranky baby.  But YMMV!  If your baby can sleep on a plane, it is FANTASTIC!  (esp if it is in their car seat.)

  • Oh my goodness!! I'm just going to let you know that a couple of hours on a plane with a not so happy sweety pie is a heck of a lot better than an 18 hour, almost non-stop trip with them strapped in a carseat. Let me just say it was almost impossible gettin my son back in it the next two weeks. (my son gets in the car 4/7 days of the week) I work and my husband goes to school.
