End of year gifts--I feel cheap

But like most of us on this board, we all have so many therapists to get something for---so I had to do what I had to do...and a $5 gift card and hand written thank you note with all the reasons why they rock is going to have to suffice.

What have you decided to do, if anything??

This year I'm not getting for all of the people I normally do for Christmas, but just those that are in his daily lives (aides, main teacher, therapists).

  • I am not doing anything.  I don't know if we are supposed to or not and I didn't have time to get anything together (or the money for that matter).  Besides, he has only been in the preschool since March and he only goes 2x/week. Today is actually his last day of school for this school year.
  • Last year I gave beaded bracelets (that my mom made for me to give, which was great!) and mini-bundt cakes that I made.

This year, since it's her last year of preschool, I splurged a little and ordered screen-printed canvas bags off of Etsy. They each have a different bird on them, as a gift from my bird-girl. :) I'm going to make some baked goods and maybe put in a piece of fruit or flowers, and a nice note that DD1 will sign.

Between teachers and therapists, we've got 5 people involved. Even small gifts add up fast.

  • I am a school teacher and I can tell you a sweet hand-written  note is the absolute best gift.  Gift cards and other such gifts are awesome and appreciated but a note is on a whole different level.  I keep all the nice notes parents have written me through the years---and some from kids as well---and they mean so very much to me.  That box of paper is one of my most valued possessions.
  • I'm trying to finish mine up today. I decided not to spend any money on DS' public school team- I just gave them gift cards at Christmas, and I do not believe gifts are customary at his school (I've received a somewhat indifferent response to gift cards, e.g. "thanks but you really didn't need to"). I am, however, in the process of writing a very detailed and thoughtful letter to the superintendent of schools commending DS' entire public school team. I went through old emails to find specific instances where his teachers were especially awesome (first words, custom social story books, potty training, pacifier training, it was quite a ride to read through all those emails!) I'm going to cc: the teachers and the principals.

For our private team, since DS is graduating, I am splurging a little. $25 GC's each for his main teachers, and Costco beach blankets + magazine for therapists and ancillary teachers. I'm not giving to aides, bus drivers, etc this year.

For people looking for inexpensive ideas- one idea that I used was a package of this locally owned soup mix. It was $5 and made in my home town. For whatever reason, that has received the best response of anything I've given! My beach blanket/magazine idea is only costing $15 at Costco. But yes, this all adds up in a big way!!
