Childcare Question

At our last two u/s it looks like the baby boy's growth has dropped off, and unless things change, we are planning a C Section for 34 weeks.

We had previously been planning on trying to find an in home day care for the twins when I go back to work in September-with them coming earlier than planned, is this something we need to reconsider?

I don't want to put them at risk if being around a small # of other children would be detrimental to their health, and we could look into a nanny instead.

Mostly likely I will wait until after they are born and see exactly what their situation is before making any concrete child care plans, but I wanted to see your thoughts.

It will definitely depend on how your twins do when they are born.  I think that one big factor will be whether or not they have any respiratory problems.  If they or one of them do, then I think that hiring a nanny might be a better option rather than a small daycare until they are older.

ditto this.  If they are pre term they will definitely have a compromised immune system whether or not they have respiratory problems at birth.  The real danger comes when babies have lung damage and get sick easily or often with a compromised immune system.

Definitely wait and see after they are born. The first year of daycare children are sick a lot. My oldest didn't start daycare until 8 months old and my youngest at 3 months old, both of them at a in-home provider. We got lucky that they didn't have any major lung problems. If you can swing a nanny the first year or two, I go that route. Less chances of them getting sick.

Praying for you and your Lo's.

  • As someone who has BTDT. I was set on a really wonderful daycare for my DD. It was not the right place for her and it took me 9 months to realize it. In hindsight, I would have just gotten a nanny. We have one now and my DD is thriving. Keep in mind you need someone who can handle babies and is okay chilling at home. I have had my share of stir-crazy babysitters. Your babies in flu season should not be out at the mall or at story time. Make sure you find someone who understands this.
