Swollen Testicle

We just got done giving DS a bath and noticed that his left testicle was over double the size of his right one. We have changed over 12 diapers today and never noticed anything! He wasn't in pain when we touched it. I called the pediatrician and he said that as long as he isn't in pain we can just wait for him to be seen at his 15 month check up on Friday, but if its more swollen tomorrow then to bring him in. This is the first time he has had any issues down there. Anyone have an experience with that? The dr mentioned hydrocele?

My DS had one when he was born. It resolved itself before his first birthday. I know there is surgery that can be done to correct it, but I don't think that is considered before 2 in most cases. The urologist we see for other reasons indicated they usually resolve themselves.

That was my thought! Is that normal or could it be related? Sorry I have no advice!

Ha ha... He usually goes 3 or 4 times a day, but the day before he only went once so I guess he is making up for it!
  • My cousins baby had what sounds like the same thing. (I am not sure of the medical term). However, he was much younger. He was only three months old when he had to have his corrected with surgery. She ended up taking him to a pediatric urology specialist and he did tell her that MOST of the time it will correct itself but this was an extreme case and it was causing him a lot of pain. His testicle was filling with fluid (and they also ended up finding a hernia once they got in there). It was a very quick procedure and he came home the same day. He had two small incisions and was sore for a few days but now he is a whole new child! Hope this helps some. Hopefully for your LO it will resolve on its own!
