So I met with my RE last week due to the 3 medicated cycles not giving me a response. I'm really glad I met with him because I think he put more thought into my situation and looked over all three last medicated cycles together. He seemed surprised that I haven't cycled on my own at all. Anywho, it was almost like he was thinking aloud to figure out what might work for me.
He wants to do one more cycle of min stim, but is switching me from Clomid to Femara to see if that might make a difference. Additionally, instead of 2 days of injects, I will be doing 4 days (CD 7-10) and to ensure there isn't an absorption issue, he wants me to do them IM.
He did say that our best option might be IVF. He said he was hesitant to do straight injects with me because of the amount of undeveloped follicles I have on my ovaries (I have 25-30 on each) and it is such a fine line between just enough and too much and he doesn't want me to have a litter.
Over the weekend, as DH and I have been talking, we are still unsure if we want to do IVF or move onto adoption - it'll just take us some time to sort it out. One question that came to mind is what if we try for that "just right" amount and if I developed too many mature follies switch to IVF? I don't know if this would be possible, but was wondering if anyone out there may have done something like this.
I'd really love any thoughts on any of the above. Also, who out there has done self-administered IM injects? I won't lie, I'm a bit nervous about doing them (even though I have a bit of a wait)!

Re: WTF Appt Update (Long)
I am on my first cycle of injects (but not IM - I feel for you there!)
RE said at the beginning if I was overstimmed and had 6-8+ follicles that we would have the opportunity to convert to IVF if we decided that is what we wanted to do. I know I read someone on thebump who this happened to as well (thought I don't remember who). So yes it is possible.
Good luck!

I was on clomid 1 time. The cysts I developed made my ovaries the size of cantaloupes and cut off my bladder needless to say after the surgery I never tried clomid again. I also tried femara a few times with no response what so ever. Like you I have about 30 follicles on each ovary so going to follistim (self-administered) IM injection was nerve racking.
My RE was worried about the same stuff as yours. I am currently in the 2WW of my first round and it went fantastic! RE started me out on a really low dosage like 25mg and I was in for an ultrasound two days later. They decided they could up me to 50mg and I was back for an ultrasound two days later. Long story short I was in every two days and I only had 1 follicle develop enough for an egg which is what the RE wanted. Did the trigger shot and now?I wait!
I would say before jumping right into IVF you should find out about getting put on an extremely low dosage (maybe a second opinion). I was worried about having to do the shots myself but it was super easy. Took me maybe 10 minutes the first time but after that I was a pro! I will say make sure you don?t get too close to your belly button though, I gave myself a nasty bruise.
Sorry this ended up being so long...It just the first time I have been able to give advice on this board.
Good luck!
