We use Beechnut. If you read the ingredients, all the Stage 2 foods say "food (peas, carrots, peaches, etc.) and water". That's it. I got a coupon online for $1 off 3 jars of food which makes them $.17 apiece. That's cheaper than what I can make it for.

I don't know what you mean by "better." My LO only eats Beechnut. I tried making my own food (simply mashing up bananas/avocados) and he won't eat it. I think it may be textural - he likes it very watery without any lumps.

I make LO food It's easier for me to do that as far as budget goes. I get all his fruits and veggies once a week at the farmer's market. Steam, puree, and freeze.
Anywho, why don't you add a little water/BM/formula/juice to this avo/banana mash. I make this for LO a couple times a week and I add a little bit of water. Enough to make it 'smooth/creamy' but still has little lumps in it so he can learn to 'chew'.
I make my own foods too. WAY cheaper and I know exactly who, what where when and why of how it was made.
My LO will not even eat jarred baby food. That goes to show you how much better making it yourself is. There is a difference!
^ i think your post comes off a little preach-y. Andplusalso, the fact that your LO only eats your food does not prove by any means how bad jarred food is either.
I think she just means that it tastes better. Not that anyone is a bad mom for buying baby food.
For DD1 I bought most of her food- gerber and Earths best, until I learned how to make it. With DD2, I make all of her food (seriously easy, very cheap). She also will not eat most store bought brands.
I have found the key to solving the "texture" issue, is to use a food processor and add water if necessary. We steam the fruit, veggies, etc, then pop them into the food processor and it's great! We didn't have a food processor with DD1, so we steamed them and then mashed them up with the blender wand.
I HATE HATE HATE HATE to cook. Seriously, I can't even make grilled cheese without scorching it. But I LOVE to make baby food!

My LO eats both Gerber and Beechnut. They've got the same ingredients, and DS likes both.
I buy Gerber in bulk packaging at Sam's Club. And when I'm at the grocery store I buy Beechnut.
