Referral to OT

So DS got a referral to OT on Friday from his pedi after we discussed and she actually happened to witness a sensory issue with him and his shoes (or lack thereof I should say). She thinks he's social enough to not indicate an ASD even though she knows DD has AS, but I have more of a wait and see approach since DD wasn't even caught by her pedi.

While I've been through sensory issues with DD before, hers were all clothing related and we never actually went through OT because we had found a way to accommodate most of her sensory issues before she was even diagnosed with AS and now she is old enough to acknowledge her issues with clothing and she sometimes forces herself to wear certain things or she just still doesn't wear them (like scratchy sweaters). DS has some sound, texture and food issues and they distress him enough to cause hand flapping, covering his ears, ect. So I feel like his sensory issues impact him more than DD's impact her.

So what does a typical OT eval look like? Is it mostly questionnaires or are there other tests they do? We have to wait for the local children's hospital who they referred us to call us for an appt.

DS's OT eval was pretty thorough.  There was a parent questionnaire prt but most of it was actually observing him.

Here's what I remember: cutting, writing a circle x plus sign square, copying various Block formations, twisting a cap, putting beans in a small jar, throwing a ball, catching a ball, kicking a ball, stairs, running, bouncing on a ball, they noted how he reacted to noises from outside, people in the hall, standing on one foot, jumping, jumping on one foot.

there was a lot.  It was through our local Children's Hospital an took about 1.5 hours.
