Parenting after a Loss

4 Month Wakeful Updates

How's everyone doing this week since that post about the 4 month wakeful earlier this week?  After four late nights involving a lot of sleep interruptions, DD is back into her old, perfect routine.

I have this book called The Wonder Weeks (by Vanderijt and Plooij).  The 4th month (chapter is week 19) consists of the following fussy signs:  trouble sleeping; shy with strangers; demanding more attention; head may need more support; clinginess; loss of appetite; moodiness; and listlessness.  How it may affect you:  you may (still) be exhausted; you may feel trapped; you may feel resentful.  On the plus side, new skills emerge during this period, which is way too long for me to type as it indicates every baby is different in their development. I know my DS was already rolling over independently and even rolls over to sleep on his stomach at 4 months. DD isn't rolling over yet (we think she's too plump, lol!)

It's a nice book but I did not purchase it; I prefer to get them from the library because there's so much information out there it isn't worth buying a book that you look at maybe once or twice.

According to the book, the next Wonder Week is the 26th.........Hope everyone sees the light at the end of the tunnel!

Re: 4 Month Wakeful Updates

  • I think my DS went through the 4 month wakeful last week. He was up many times at night wanting to play or wanting his pacifier. He had days when he ate 6-7 ounces at a time and days when he barely ate 3. He slept okay last night, waking around 1:30 and 6 to eat. Please let it be over!! My DD was her normal self at night, waking to eat 2x as usual, and sttn one time. I am hoping she will skip the rest of the signs :)

Thanks for posting all of the signs. I want to check this out of the library now because I'm curious to learn about the new milestones. No signs of rolling over yet!

  • Hey ladies, I'm still on the trenches!

But...DS is getting a little better. We had two really rough days of half hour wakeups all night long and now its back to about 3 wake ups. The biggest difference I noticed is that it takes him longer to go back down. Before this 4 month wakeful, I would just go in and put the paci in or feed him. Now he requires rocking, shhhing, and time before he'll go back down.

I have noticed lots of milestones happening so thats cool!
