Trying to Get Pregnant

CD48

I'm on CD48 and still no period or BFP (I'm testing at least once a week). So frusterating!

I've read on this board to call the dr. when I hit CD60. My question is, what happens after that? What should I expect from the appointment (if it comes to that)?

Re: CD48

  • I think I called around CD 70, and I had to wait a couple weeks for the soonest appointment. My doctor first set me up for blood work and an ultrasound. Then we made another appointment to discuss the results of that. Never once did he mention Provera. I actually had to ask for it at my follow-up appointment when I was diagnosed with PCOS. When it was all said and done, I went 123 days without a period. I guess I can understand why he wanted to wait to prescribe it until after we had the test results, but it was just frustrating because of all the wait time in between appointments. So don't expect to necessarily get it right away if it comes to that.

I am not sure if the doctor gives you an ultrasound to confirm that you did not ovulate before they give your provera to jump start your next cycle. I personally would start temping asap to confirm that you didn't ovulate before you take the provera.

i am so glad you brought this up. I was planning on temping as soon as I get my period but I obviously haven't gotten it yet (this is our first cycle trying). So I should start temping now?

I started temping around CD 40-ish last cycle and it was the only way I knew that I did indeed ovulate at CD 76. You can always start temping, you just won't have as clear of a picture as you would if you started right after AF.

    This.

I called my doctor on CD62 and went in the next day. When my test came back negative, they referred me to an OB/GYN, and I won't be seeing her until the first week of June.

Provera wasn't mentioned by my PCP, but hopefully my GYN will. I just want my next cycle to start asap, especially after reading that the longer you wait the higher the risk of abnormal endometrial lining.

Tl;dr don't expect to be written a prescription right away.

In fact, don't expect to get a prescription at all. The doctor I saw refused to prescribe Provera because "more hormones won't help the situation." I was in the process of getting in to see my Primary Care Manager (I am an Army dependent) when I finally saw that I had ovulated.

Not trying to freak you out, since most women seem to have the opposite problem on here (doctors who throw medicine at the problem) but some doctors are more reluctant to prescribe Provera.

My PCP might have been one of those doctors.

I'm not sure how more hormones won't help the situation, though; I may be one of those women who need a jumpstarted cycle to get my hormones actually going. Won't know for sure until I finally O or talk to my gyno.

Oh yeah, I was being pretty sarcastic by quoting her ridiculous statement that "more hormones won't help." Quite honestly, I don't think she knew what she was talking about at all, since when I first brought up Provera, she said "What, to use as birth control?" And when I explained what I had read about Provera on this site, she told me the hormone bit and then told me to come back in SIX months if I hadn't gotten AF.

  • I was CD110 when I went to my dr. She never mentioned provera or anything like that. She took blood and I got a pap done. She said she would call me with the results. She didn't. She mailed the blood test results to me but to be honest I don't know what everything means but everything was in the 'normal' range.

I had never heard there could be problems letting your body go with no period too long. Slightly concerned now since I still haven't had a period. CD128 today! But I've been spotting very slightly since May 10th. So maybe this is my period? Ugh. So weird.

When you do go to your doc ask about Provera. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I was. And I have no answers.

    Good luck to you!!
