University clinics

Has anyone been part of a university speech clinic? We have quite a few around and I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to try to have my son seen there. He gets speech through EI now but will end in the fall. Just thought it might be helpful to have a second opinion/more services.

What is the cost like and how does it work? Was your experience positive?

Re: University clinics

  • My DS is about to start a program for kids who arent talking yet at a university. It is the best speech therapy program in the area and all of his ECI therapists highly recommended it. He will be working mainly with SLP masters students but they are closely supervised by 2 PhD SLP's. We have only had a trial day so far and i was really impressed by the program. We are really hoping this will be the intense therapy he needs to start talking.

The cost is pretty expensive and insurance doesnt cover it. It is about $1600 for the 6 weeks after a 20% discount.

  • We haven't done it personally yet, but will likely go that route when ei ends assuming she hasn't made a 180. A friend of mine has a very positive experience-the therapists helped resolve her dds apraxia. $1200 for the school year is the cost.

  • It has been positive.

DS has a speech masters student that goes to his daycare 2 times a week for an hour. It is free to us and DS has improved greatly! We found her through EI and she asked me yet again if she can work with DS after we moved to our current daycare.
