Tell Boss?

When do people typically tell their boss about being pregnant? I am not worried about losing a promotion or my job or anything like that just looking for the right time to tell!
Thanks! :

Re: Tell Boss?

  • I think it just depends on the person and the boss. I haven't told mine yet and I'm 11 weeks but I'm planning to prob this week bc I can't hide the bump anymore... Some ppl tell right away bc they need to alter things that they do in their jobs that might not be safe for pregnancy. Some ppl wait till 12 weeks or more... GL on deciding!

I waited last time until about 13 weeks because we were on summer vacation and there was no real reason to tell him before we went back to school. This time I had to tell him this past week. I had gotten permission to leave 30 minutes early on Thurs for my first appointment, but then needed to leave during my lunch and be gone for one of my classes on Friday for an ultrasound. If it wasn't for the ultrasound I would not have told him for a couple more weeks.

  • I had to tell my HR dept as soon as we found out because I'm a buyer for a sports retail company and had to attend a training day for one of our biggest suppliers at 5 wks. When I say training I mean full on physical training, so I had to pull out.
I work in a small office so the rest of the team found out gradually over the first 10 wks. It was impossible to keep a secret with the ms and weird eating habits, but I'm glad I told. Everyone has been really supportive.
  • I've been struggling with this, too. I'm a teacher, and when we leave for summer vacation, I won't have even had an u/s to make sure everything is ok with the pregnancy. So, I don't want to tell the principal before that, but if I wait until we get back from summer vacation, I'll be 21 weeks, and I feel like that's a really long time to wait to tell him. I might try to schedule a meeting with him when I'm around 12 weeks to let him know.
  • I've already told my boss. He's old and like everyone's dad. It was no big deal for me. But I have a pretty cushy work environment.

  • I'm 11 weeks today and told my boss a few days ago. She thought I was going to quit, so when I told her I was 'just pregnant' she was thrilled! It felt great to let her know and know my boss is supportive of my pregnancy!

  • If all goes well at our appointment on Monday, we're going public (facebook and work). I'll be 11 weeks and 6 days and I feel pretty good about that if things are looking good tomorrow. I am starting to pork up a little and it would just be easier for people to know rather than speculate or try and hint around about it.
  • I told my boss already b/c of the hazards in my workplace.
  • I told my boss after my first ultrasound so he would be aware of my need for doctor appts, etc. Plus, if something did go wrong, it would be easier to ask for the time off. He and I get along well, so I didn't have any concerns about poor treatment.

  • I have been so sick that I told mine a few weeks ago, in week 7. He was very excited and congratulatory, which was nice. :
