My husband and I were talking about the night I went into labor last night. So I thought it'd fun to share our labor stories. I know a lot of people posted back when they had their LOs but honestly I didn't read at least half of them because I was due later in the month and jealous lol. So let's take a trip down memory lane...

Due date: was originally Nov 7

Day and time you went into labor: October 10th at 8:30 am

What were you doing: I was in the hospital already for observation for my high blood pressure. I was getting ready to go home and I reached over to sit up in bed and my water broke.

First sign of labor: water breaking

Did you know you were going to go into labor : oh yea

Vaginal or csec: emergency C Section after 2 hours of pushing

How long were contractions: no idea, I had a good epidural going

How long did you push for: 2 hours

Did you know the sex? Yep

Any crazy or funny stories from it? I literally felt no pain so MH and my BFF that was in with me had a good long funny convo with my OBGYN about her being a ginger haha

    Anything else?
I had a long not fun pregnancy including an emergency appendectomy.

  •  Due date: 10/25

Day and time you went into labor: 10/21 about 8PM (E born on 10/22)

What were you doing: home, mom was making dinner. We had just had a nice day together, she had arrived the night before, we went for mani/pedis, she stocked the fridge up for us (and all was lost a week later due to Sandy!)

First sign of labor: well I took castor oil and started to have bad cramps

Did you know you were going to go into labor : wasn't sure if it was just intestinal issues, then I lost my mucus plug...then my water broke...I didn't have timeable contractions, just pain

    Vaginal or csec: Vag

How long were contractions: they started out like 15 seconds apart immediately. They weren't timeable. But it was probably about 10 hours between when labor started and when I started pushing.

How long did you push for: about 2 hours

Did you know the sex? yup!

Any crazy or funny stories from it? I pulled my pants off after my water broke and was walking around like a lunatic completely naked from the top down around my apartment with my mom and H there. I also cried when I got to L&D saying "I am in labor and it hurts." The nurses laughed.

Anything else? My H wanted to wait to go to the hospital. My contractions were so crazy close I was nervous I'd be having the baby at home. He thought we should wait. He opened up some Dr. Sears book and finally my mom was like "DAMMIT G, TAKE HER TO THE HOSPITAL" lol.

  • Due date: Ummm.... October 13th I think? We always knew I was going to have him early so I don't really remember.

Day and time you went into labor: Sept 29th, I don't remember exactly what time, in the morning.

What were you doing: Sitting in the hospital waiting for contractions to start after they put in the pitocin, haha.

First sign of labor:  I was having contractions for a couple weeks and was 3cm dilated, but ended up being induced at 37w 6d because of my history.

Did you know you were going to go into labor :  Yes, we went to be induced, haha.

Vaginal or csec: Vaginal, no epidural.  I was not happy about the pitocin, but I also needed him out and needed him safe.

    ETA: didn't make sense!

How long were contractions:  I don't remember honestly, I think 5 1/2 hours after they started pitocin?  This was my second labor though, so it was fast.

How long did you push for:   2 1/2 flucking hours... he was stuck.  Man was I was missing my epi at that point.

Did you know the sex? Yes.

Any crazy or funny stories from it? Umm.... my water broke all over my very pregnant nurse's face.  I told her it broke right as I hit transition, she went to check me and BAM- out came the rest of it.  Then after when I was pushing somehow I managed to speak enough to tel lher I pooped, haha.  She's like "no, that's the pressure from the baby" I said "I've had a baby before! I pooped." LOL, yup I had.  She cleaned it up.  What a job!

Anything else? MM..... don't think so.  I got an epi with my first labor, I had always planned to go natural but I just couldn't do it once I knew he was dead.  I HATED the epi.

  • Due date: October 20

Day and time you went into labor: October 25 at 12:30am

What were you doing: sleeping for an hour. It was the first night in weeks that we went to bed later than 9:30 lol

First sign of labor: water broke after I went to the bathroom

Did you know you were going to go into labor : I had a feeling. We went shopping for some last minute things the night before and on the way home u was feeling A LOT of pressure.

    Vaginal or csec: vaginal

How long were contractions: they lasted from 2 am til I had her at 1:04 pm, so 11 hours.

How long did you push for: from 12 to 1:04, so a little over an hour

Did you know the sex? Yup, baby girl

Any crazy or funny stories from it? Husband almost passed out when they were trying to do my IV. He turned white as a ghost and had to sit on the floor. The nurse had to stop what she was doing to tend to him. He was so embarrassed, I felt so bad for him. Because of it, he left for my epidural. Also, I was fully dilated for like 2 to 3 hours because my doctor was in surgery that was running late.

Anything else? I got my epidural as soon as possible but it wasn't until almost 7. I did not think I was going to last that long without it. And I had to get two epidurals. The first anesthesiologist didn't tell me that I couldn't sit up, which I was doing because I was feeling claustrophobic. Also I barely broke a sweat or made much noise. I'm super shy so I didn't say much with the nurse around. I still had all of my make up on after delivery, my eye make up was just a little smudged. my husband always jokes how labor was no big deal for me lol.

  • Due Date:  October 28, Delivered October 6

First sign of labor:  None, except for high blood pressure from Pre e and HELLP

    Emergency Csection at 1 a.m.

We knew they were both girls!

Funny story... I went in alone so they could monitor my blood pressure. Turns out it was Pre e and HELLP syndrome and they had to deliver THAT NIGHT. DH packed the bags by himself and did a great job!

Anything else? Yes, a brag! They weighed 6 lb 9 oz and 7 lb 1 oz. The nurses said those are fantastic weights for babies born before 37 weeks. GO ME!!!

  • This is as much about DD1 as DD2.  DD2 was a rcs, so it wasn't overly eventful.

    Due date:

October 13 (I so don't remember, I had to look at a calendar)

Day and time you went into labor:

Never went into labor, RCS on October 8th

    What were you doing:

We dropped DD1 off at daycare and then came home to gather up our stuff and then went to the hospital.  We got a really cute pic of DH and I in the waiting room before going in for the c-section

    First sign of labor:

Nothing, I never went into labor!  With DD1 though, my water broke at the office - yep everyone's worst fear!

Did you know you were going to go into labor :

I was so scared I'd go into labor before our scheduled c-section and then we'd have to make arrangements for DD1 and it would have to be an emergency c-section. With DD1, I called DH and he asked me if I was sure I hadn't peed my pants again.

    Vaginal or csec:

    c-section

    How long were contractions:

Ok, this part of having a c-section was nice. No contractions.  That part wasn't the most enjoyable with DD1, especially since there was what they called a window in my epidural and it wasn't working.

How long did you push for:

I never made it to the pushing phase, even with DD1 since she was stuck and I hadn't progressed more than 1-3cm in more than 10 hours after my water broke

    Did you know the sex?

    Yes!

Any crazy or funny stories from it?

I was more petrified about the catheder being put in than the whole c-section.  Like started shaking when she started to prep since with DD1 it was so painful (they messed up big time) but it was in in like 2 seconds, and I was like, that's it?  I felt really silly!  With DD1 though, I found out while open on the table that my OBGYN and I went to the same high school - about 3 hours from where we live now, in a different state, and I proceeded, to scream "no way" (typical valley girl style) and then asked a 65 year old man what year he graduated, and then said, maybe we knew some of the same people.   DH Still makes fun of me for it!

    Due date: October 12

Day and time you went into labor: Water Broke Oct 15, 11:45pm at home in bed

What were you doing: half asleep

First sign of labor: water breaking was a good enough sign for me.

Did you know you were going to go into labor : Yep.

    Vaginal or csec: Vaginal.

How long were contractions: Didn't start until 7:45am on the Oct 16 (needed pitocin to get things started... But I got an epidural right away, so I really didn't feel much pain at all during everything.

How long did you push for: 20 minutes practice w/ nurse/DH, 20 minutes w/ doctor in room, and she was born. Doctor wasn't even ready for her at all! She just popped out. Doctor had to tell me to stop pushing!

Did you know the sex? Oh yeah. I would have found out on the pee stick if possible. I have no patience for waiting.

Any crazy or funny stories from it? I had to take a shiit so bad, but I was immediately put on bedrest when I walked into the emergency room. So they wouldn't let me get up to poop. I shoo'd DH away and pooped in a bedpan while laying down. I was kind of embarrased until the nurse said 'hey, I'm either gonna clean it up now, or when you push, it doesn't matter to me either way'. So I did it. He still teases me to this day. 'I SAW HER WALK OUT OF THE ROOM WITH YOUR BEDPAN FULL OF SHIIT'. Haha. (the nurse actually did dump (ha!) the poop in the toilet once I was done, but she did walk out with the bedpan to get me a new one.

  • Due date: October 13th

Day and time you went into labor: October 5th at 10 am, baby boy was born October 6th.

What were you doing: Dropping my cat off at my parents, so I could pick him up on the way back from my appointment and take him to the vet (My doctor's office was an hour from home).

First sign of labor: The cat had pooped while in the car. I was taking the cat carrier into my parents bathroom, so I could clean him up when my water broke.

Did you know you were going to go into labor :
No, hence why I thought I would be taking the cat to the vet later that day.

    Vaginal or csec: Vaginal

How long were contractions: I have no freaking clue. It felt like they were all right on top of each other.

How long did you push for:
    20 minutes

Did you know the sex? Yes

Any crazy or funny stories from it? My water broke at 10 am on the 5th although I was having contractions, I didn't feel them until 11am on the 6th. That's when they discovered that I had a second bag of water that hadn't broken and was stopping progress.

Anything else? My water broke all over my parents bathroom and I had nothing with me. So, I went to my scheduled doctors appointment commando. When the nurse came to get me after an hour of waiting, I told her my water had broken. She was like why on earth didn't you say anything!
  • Due date: October 17

Day and time you went into labor:  Around 10 AM on October 9th

What were you doing: I was in the shower

First sign of labor: Contractions every two mins apart...hard enough to knock me to the floor

Did you know you were going to go into labor : yup!

    Vaginal or csec: Vaginal

How long were contractions: They started at 2 mins apart...by time I got to the hospital two hours later they were lasting 2 mins each and about 60 seconds apart

How long did you push for:  just over 2 hours

Did you know the sex? yup!

Any crazy or funny stories from it? Umm, my hubby was nervous driving me to the hospital and ran over three different curbs and went in an exit only driveway at the hospital. Thankfully we all made it there safe! ;)

Anything else? When I gave birth, it was actually the third time I went into labor. The first time was at 32 weeks then again at 35, thankfully the doctors were able to stop it both times.

    Due date:  Oct 4th

Day and time you went into labor:  Sept 30th, 3:30am

What were you doing:  I woke up  to go to the bathroom

First sign of labor:  I had my bloody show, when I tried to go back to sleep I realized I was having contractions every 20 minutes.

Did you know you were going to go into labor :  I figured I was in pre-labor, I had tried very hard to go in to labor for at least a week.

    Vaginal or csec:  Vaginal

How long were contractions:  I honestly can't remember, They were about 1 minute apart with back labor by the time I got a Epi ...11 hours after hard labor started.

How long did you push for: 2 hours 22 minutes.

Did you know the sex? Yes, Boy.

Any crazy or funny stories from it?    It was actually a very calm labor/delivery,  I was the only one in the delivery ward at the time. We were able to play our Ipod, dim the lights and after I received the best Epi ever I fell asleep until 3:30 am when a nurse checked me and asked if I wanted to push or sleep a little longer.   Probably the only excitement would of been when I puked my guts out while in a bath...glad I didn't have to clean that up!

    Anything else?
I actually love labor and delivery and can't wait until I get to do it again one day :)

  • Due date: 10/18

Day and time you went into labor: 4am early labor started... active labor began at 10am on Halloween 10/31

What were you doing: Flipping out! I was SO excited to go into labor on my own... I was scheduled to be induced the next day at 42 weeks.

First sign of labor: Mucous plug came out during week 41.  Other than that, cramps began and that was that.  We don't really know when my water broke.  I kept telling the midwife that I thought I was peeing on myself, but she checked and saw nothing.  So I am assuming then...?

Did you know you were going to go into labor : I had really hoped so.  I had gotten my membranes sweeped the night before.

    Vaginal or csec: Vag

How long were contractions: 27 hours

How long did you push for: 2 hours

Did you know the sex? Yes

Any crazy or funny stories from it? Driving to the hospital trying to avoid trick or treaters... Not fun.

ETA: Also funny, I wanted to DTD as soon as she came out.

Reflecting on this whole thing just makes me want to get pregnant again... I weirdly loved giving birth.

Day and time you went into labor:
    induced 10/07

    What were you doing: n/a

    First sign of labor: n/a

Did you know you were going to go into labor :
I was shocked at being induced, I felt fine the whole pregnancy and didn't feel ready at all.

    Vaginal or csec: vaginal

How long were contractions: technically started them Sunday night but real labor started Monday afternoon. I never did any timing. Was on pitocin from Monday morning through the birth. Labor was 36 hours total.

How long did you push for:
3.5 hours, dr. threatened with a csection halfway through. Baby was sunny side up and I couldn't get her past my pelvic bone. But we did it with no interventions. I did spike a fever since they checked me so much so baby was sent right to the NICU after a 30 second cuddle and quick pic.

Did you know the sex? Yes

Any crazy or funny stories from it?
The dr. rushed to another room right after LO was born saying she would stitch me up later... I was left unattended in the stirrups and had one last puke in me that shot the placenta out and splat on to the floor... The room full of NICU nurses for the baby went silent and looked like a war zone... Cleaning crew came in later to wash blood off the walls.

    Anything else?
I am sad I didn't get to experience a natural labor. Induction and restricted labor is something I hope to never do again. Plus the baby being sent to the NICU robbed us of a ton of bonding time and started us on a long struggle for nursing. I realized later on that I was traumatized by the whole experience. Much better now.

    Eta two other questions
  • oh

    I forgot to add:

I didn't deliver the placenta and the Dr had to go up in there and pull it out with her hand. It came out in pieces.

It was like a murder scene in there. I don't wish that upon anyone.

The doctor had a hard time controlling it and ordered something for me to help, but he was able to get it under control by the time it came and the nurse was ready to give it to me. Oh yea, I did this too... I didn't care at all though because Raylan was healthy.  But yea, like an hour or two after he was born I realized I was still having decent contractions and asked about it and he said they couldn't turn off the pit yet because I was bleeding too much.  Eventually I was light headed and had anemia for a few days.  But again, didn't care, my babes was healthy.

Day and time you went into labor:  My water broke on October 13 at 530pm, my labor didn't start until after I was at the hospital but my OB told me to go to the hospital if my water broke because I was already past my due date.

    What were you doing:
I had just finished having my nails done and was driving home, when I thought that I had peed myself, nope just my water breaking.

First sign of labor: water breaking.  Suprising it was not the gush that you see on tv or that people tell you about.  I just thought that I had peed, but my husband pointed out that normal people don't pee for an hour straight.

Did you know you were going to go into labor :
No, I was in denial. I had scheduled my induction the day before for the 19th so I didn't think it was happening.

Vaginal or csec: Vaginal with an epideral.  I had to have two of them though becuase my first one wore off.

    How long were contractions:
I was in labor for about 30 hours, they had to put me on picitin (?) because my contrations never started on there own.  I had to have two epiderals becasue after 27 hours it wore off.  I could hear the nice man with the drugs running down the hall to give me a booster of pain meds until my second epideral kicked in.  I was on the picitin for the whole time.  When the meds wore off I was in serious pain.  I think I had 6 boosters beofre the epideral kicked back in.  I felt great afterwards though!!

How long did you push for:  I pushed for 20 minutes, but i couldn't feel anything so the nurse had to tell me when to push and when to stop pushing.

Did you know the sex? Yep, it's a boy

Any crazy or funny stories from it? Crazy story from labor and delivery is that my mother-in law got into a huge fight with my husband about 45 mionutes before my son was born because she was kicked out of the delivery room when my epideral ran out.  The nurses kicked everyone out who didn;t need to be there. She was beyond pissed abouth it.  She was saying that I was faking how bad the pain was so that everyone would pay more attention to me. It got so bad that the head nurse came in and asked if hospital securtiy should be called to escort her off the premisis.  After 29 hours of labor I told her that was her call. My mother-in-law eventually calmed down and busted into the room about 30 minutes after my son was born so that she could be the first person to hold him, but too late I had and so had my husband by then.  We didn't see her again until the day I was released from teh hospital she met us at our house and held her grandson for about half an hour and then went home.  10 days after my son was born, my husbands mother killed herself.  I think there was something wrong in her head, but my husbands grandmother blames me for it. Saying I drove her to do it, but I know that I didn't do anything and the grandmother is the only one in the family to think this.  My husbands mother had attempted to kill her self 6 times before this over the 8 years that I have known him, so I think that there was something not right with her.

    Anything else?

I had always been pretty crampy, so no I didn't think it was going to be the real thing.

Vaginal or csec: CS- Her head was stuck in the canal with her nose facing my  hip and the back of her head in the canal.

How long were contractions: I was in labor for 26 hours before an epidural. Bear was born two hours later.

How long did you push for: N/A

Did you know the sex? Yes, though I didn't want to.

Any crazy or funny stories from it?
Before the epidural I was given a regular pain med about 6 hours in through IV. I called my mom to give her an update and apparently I was the most hilarious thing known to man. I'm quite the comedian.

Anything else? I had horrible back labor, the labor shakes and violently vomited the whole time.

When we arrived at the hospital on November 2nd, I ate Jimmy Johns. I considered it my "last meal". I didn't eat again until November 4th when I finally passed gas (have to because of the CS in order to eat) When I finally did, the kitchen was closed but my hemoglobin was really low, and my iron pills weren't going to cut it so my night nurse gave me her lunch. I'll forever be in debt to her. I was starving.

I forgot that I bled really bad after. The doctor had a hard time controlling it and ordered something for me to help, but he was able to get it under control by the time it came and the nurse was ready to give it to me. My husband was paying attention to the baby and turned around towards me and regretted it immediately lol. He said it looked like a horror film. Glad I didnt have to see anything.

Yep, this was me too. They had to give me the special medicine and keep the pitocin going. I think the Doctor was getting nervous because she told me I had to stop bleeding. I actually tried to concentrate really hard and make myself stop bleeding.

Oct 2 in the evening around 8/9 I think...

c section, emergency, day before scheduled c ssection

started bleeding and went in. Had been in pre labor before this for days.

found out at 16 weeks it was a girl.

i couldn't find DH and my neighbor had to take me to the hospital and DH came an hour later and made it for the delivery (he was food shopping for my hospital snacks and there was no reception!) my MIL wanted me to wait until DH showed up so he wouldn't miss it...while I'm bleeding...that did not happen!  She did not comprehend the seriousness of the situation...I think she was super stressed by it all.

  • Due Date: October 24th

Day and time you went into labor: October 16th around 3pm

What were you doing? Got induced at 9am and was waiting for the pitocin to take effect.

First sign of labor: Contractions - they weren't kidding when they said that you will know when it's a real contraction

Did you know you were going to go into labor: Yup

    Vaginal or csec: Vaginal

How long were contractions: they were every 4-5 minutes

How long did you push for: 2hrs

Did you know the sex? Yup

Any crazy or funny stories: I may have been a little nasty with DH during my contractions - he kept telling me "Remember to breathe... breathe honey it will be okay" and I kept yelling at him telling him "I'm flucking breathing! Shut up! No talking!"

Once they put the epi in, he looked at me and said "Well the epi must be working, you're much nicer now" lol

    Due date: October 26

Day and time you went into labor:  on the morning of the 24th is when the cramping started, but I felt funny the day before.

    What were you doing:  teaching

First sign of labor:  felt funny on the 23rd and slight cramping on the morning of the 24th

Did you know you were going to go into labor :  I didn't think so until in the afternoon when I decided to start timing the cramps and they were a little over 6 minutes apart.

    Vaginal or csec: vaginal

How long were contractions:  I was having contractions all day, but they didn't get real strong till around 6 or 7 in the evening and went till just short of 5 am

How long did you push for:  the doctor checked on me at about 4:30 and I was ready, but the baby was still high so she broke my water and had me push a couple times then she decided to leave and come back when the baby had dropped further.  5 minutes after she left I felt like it was time to push and then had to wait for the doctor to come back since she had left the hospital instead of staying like she usually does.  When she arrived I pushed maybe a dozen times and she was out.

Did you know the sex? Team green

Any crazy or funny stories from it?  My h didn't like the chairs so he decided to go to sleep on the floor.  The doctor came in was wondering why he was on the floor.  She then checked me and said I was ready.  He woke up and about freaked out because he wasn't fully awake when she said that.

Anything else?  The nurse who checked us in didn't know how to put the contraction monitor correctly, so most of my contractions weren't showing up so she didn't believe that I was in labor.

we sent my parents to hotel because we were told probably mid morning.  As soon as we found out I was ready to push we called them, but they arrived about 5 minutes after she was born.
