Sleeping away from Home

My 15 month old has been on a pretty strict routine since birth.  We have NEVER yet gone on vacation since she was born.  The only places she has slept are in her crib at night and on a sleep mat at daycare for her nap.  DH would like to go on a short trip to see his dad this Memorial Day weekend, but I have no idea what to do about her sleeping arrangements.  Ideas???

Re: Sleeping away from Home

  • Do you have a pack n play? That's what DS sleeps in when we travel.

  • We use a pack-n-play or he sleeps with us.

  • Yes, but we've tried using it for naps when we had to be a friend's homes before and all she would do is cry in them.  I suppose it doesn't feel as cushy as her crib... is there a solution to that?
  • Maybe you could start having her take naps in the pack n play to help her get used to it. Also, we have this for the mat at the bottom, it's super soft.

  • We use a PnP but make sure that we bring a sheet she's already been using at home, so that it smells more familiar.  I know a friend who put really flat pillows under the sheet to make it more comfortable for her son to use.  That, or like the PP said, get a daycare mat and have her sleep on that.  GL!

  • I would try the pack n play at home wherever she usually sleeps so she knows it's a place where she sleeps. Once she's used to that it might be easier for her to settle when you're out of town.

  • People cut a foam crate mattress pad and slide it underneath the sheet of a PnP. Helps a lot apparently.

Once my LO got old enough I just stuffed a blanket under it. She slept much better.

I'll be honest. My kid is "I like my crib and only my crib!" sort of child. Sleeping with us is a disaster as well. I just deal with it. There was a time she woke up every hour in the PnP. Now at almost 2 it's getting better, but still not fabulous. THe good news is the trip home is peaceful because she naps it away.
