How much food do you put in front of your LO at a time? I am still just giving a few pieces at a time usually b/c DS tends to drop a lot and/or cram as much as he can into his mouth. Also, is anyone putting a plate down yet, or does everything go onto the high chair tray?
Re: Another feeding question
I don't use a plate yet or it would end up on the floor. I still put everything on the try for now.
I usually give her a good amount. She does well with picking up one piece at a time and not shoving it in all at once. It saves me time this way. If she finishes it i will give her more. She doesn't drop anything either unless she is all done. So I'm able to gove her a good amount and just let her go for it.
We taught her sign language for all done so we normally know when she is done before it ends up on the floor or in her hair
i give him everything at once. he is pretty good at only putting one piece of food in his mouth at a time. i think he was a quick learner with this because it took maybe one time of coughing up food to figure out cramming food in his mouth wasn't a good idea...
i also give all his food to him on a plate. i started this back when he was six months. it took many meals of teaching the words "plate down" to get him to not pick his plate up, but now he is good to go... clean up is SO nice and easy. no cleaning up high chair trays or the floor... just throw the plate away.
Depending what we are having I may or may not give dd a plate. (it also depends on whether or not im ready to sit down yet). i do give her a bowl w a spoon and she will now scoop & feed herself oatmeal, quinoa, etc
As far as amounts go, I just give her a few pieces of everything & replenish as needed. I don't worry about how much she might put in her mouth at a time. If it is a lot I will just watch her extra carefully.
