XP: One bad boob.

I posted this on the breastfeeding board as well. Does anyone here struggle with one bad boob. I am constantly having issues on the left side, mastitis, chapped, cracked nipples. The right side is fine no problems. It's not a supply issue it's more like my anatomy.

Anyone else experiencing this?  Any suggestions that have helped you?

  • Ive had mastitis twice plus weird lumps or pain in my right breast. Always the right. I can NOT sleep on my right side. At all. I sleep on my back most nights because I'm afraid to tempt fate with the left one LOL. Also I feed her off that breast first to make sure its really empty and pump less from it as well.

  • My left outputs waaaaaay less than my right. I can get four or five ounces from my right and maybe one or two from my left. It's lame. They hurt about the same but the right will ache and get painful hard much quicker.

Any chance you sleep on that side? Or have a bra that improperly fits?

Yes and yes, I do usually sleep on my left side or on my stomach and my bras probably are too small at this point. I never thought of either of those as reasons why I'm having issues but that makes sense. The least I will do is finally get a bra that fits properly.

I could have posted this word for word. I've had mastitis twice and thrush all in my left side. Right has been fine up until 2 days ago when LO decided to start latching differently.

After the second mastitis I made sure he eats from the left first and favored it whenever I felt engorged. Then when I got thrush I only pumped on the left until I got rid of the thrush. It felt like every month since lo was 2 weeks i was having issues. It's been nice not to for 2 months. I've come so close many times on giving up on breast feeding because of the pain but fear of mastitis again keeps me going along with the health benefits for ds. :
