Baby Names

Jane, FN or MN?

I love the name Jane.  H is sold on it as a middle name, but I'm leaning towards first name.  His argument, it goes with any first name.  He said if I can come up with a good middle name that flows well with Jane as a first name he would consider it.  So I come to you.... ideas?!  I'm gonna pull up the ol' family tree while waiting for responses and see what I can come up with!

Re: Jane, FN or MN?

  • It depends on your last name, but I think it would sound best with a longer MN. It's totally cute BTW, love Jane :)

    Umm...

    Madeline

    Eloise

    Audrey/Aubrey

    Genevieve

    Georgia

Julianna (if you don't mind the double J's... I'm really liking the sound of that, actually)

    Josephina (again, the J's)

    Adelina

  • Last name is one syllable also, so I was thinking longer middle name as well... thanks for the suggestions!  Keep them coming!

My teenage coworker and I were talking about this name today. You can really pair it with a lot of names. These are a few of what we were throwing out there. Is there a style of names that you like? French, Irish, Old Fashioned, Modern?

Eta. With a more mainstream FN, I am more adventurous with the MN, and vise versa. Hence, Jane Rhoda. Lol

I really like the bolded ones!  My style is more traditional bordering on old-fashioned.

I think it's a kind of plain name for a first name. I like it better as a middle name.
  • I absolutely love Jane as a FN. If I were having a girl, it would definitely be on my short list.

  • Thanks everyone!  I read a lot of these to H and he said that he "didn't hate" Jane Elizabeth and that it could go on the short list!!

  • Jane is my FN and I've always liked it. Yes it is a little plain but I really don't meet many. Especially in my age group!
As a MN, we considered naming our daughter Georgia Jane, or Amelie Jane. My MN is Ann.
  • Jane Sofia, I second Jane Elizabeth, Jane Victoria, Jane Daphne, Jane yeah.. Elizabeth.

  • I prefer Jane as a MN but if you are set on using it as a FN these are my suggestions:
    Jane Catherine
    Jane Elise/Elissa
    Jane Alexandra
    Jane Christina
    Jane Isobel/Isabella

  • I don't like Jane as a FN, probably just because of an association. I think that it makes a VERY pretty MN.
