Biting

My son is 16 months old and has recently been biting a lot. He doesn't bite other children or my husband, just me. I really would like to stop this behavior, but I am not sure where to begin. I bought a book, "Teeth are not for Biting," and have been reading that. I think he understands, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any gentle techniques that are successful? Thanks!!!!

  • The best punishment/redirection I could come up with at that age was to put myself in time out. Regular time out didn't work well, so I would say I wouldn't play with him if he did xyz and I'd go in another room where he couldn't follow for a few seconds.

And I agree with pp that prevention is probably your best course.
