I'm a leftie. Being a leftie, I know a lot of random facts that surround it. Here are some.

    In elementary school I actually taught myself to be ambidextrous, but I still can't use those stupid scissors.

    The collosum is what connects the two hemispheres and communicates between them.

    A lefthanded person usually has a larger collosum than righthanded people because most activities and movements are done in a righthanded way. i.e. those stupid scissors, reading, etc. The communication needs to flow in order for the action to be performed lefthanded, the right way.

    Lefthanded people should technically be more creative than logistic, since that is their dominant hemisphere.

    DaVinci is a well known leftie. He was extremely creative and artistic, but still extremely mathematical with is a left brain trait

    There are still countries who force right handedness, so the total number of lefties in the world is unknown, but speculated to be anywhere between 10 to 15 percent.

    The gene that causes left handedness has been thought to be found, but is also the gene that causes schizophrenic tendencies. Because of that they say lefties are more at risk at developing schizophrenia, but I haven't seen any actual proof behind their words. PS this was published in NatGeo, so it's decently reputable, though still not proven

    My parents are both righties, so I had to learn to tie my shoes by my left handed grandfather

    Now when learning to tie shoes with the opposite dominant hand, they suggest using a mirror, so everything is shown backwards

    When writing, allow the leftie to turn their paper slightly clockwise so it's more comfortable to write

    My curiosity has gotten the better of me, and I'm wondering why a favoritism even occurs when ambidextrous capabilities would be the most beneficial to a species

    Because the population isn't completely known, I can't research to see if the number of lefties or ambidextrous people has grown, lessened or stayed stagnant

    I also can't find any information to tell whether it's a trait that can be found in a specific heritage, or if it seems to be a random malformity

    A good amount of left handed people are only lefties when writing. For all else they use their right hand. For example, Niall golfs right handed

    For some it's because they were taught by right handed people, others it's out of comfortableness

    I'm a natural leftie. I was taught how to do everything by rightie parents and teachers. I'm ambidextrous now in everything except writing and using scissors.

    Guess I'm part of the 2%.  Both my parents were right-handed but my brother & I are left-handed.  Go figure. 

    I'm sure this is also a fact that 99.9% of left-handed people hate left-handed scissors.

    2 percenter here, too. I'm also the only one on my father's entire side of the family to be a leftie, and only two out the 100 some members of my mom's family.

    THAT'S what I forgot to add.

    The term south paw came from baseball. Diamonds are built where the pitcher faces west. In doing so, left handed pitchers throw with the hand that faces the south. When announcers would talk about left handed pitchers, they quickly coined the term south paw.

    Interesting read! My brother is left handed and the only other leftie in our family is our maternal grandfather. Maybe my mom had the trait and passed it on to our brother. My sister and I are both right handed.
