Day care/nanny share options in Queen Anne/Fremont/Wallingford Area

We are due end of the year 2013 and are looking for day care/nanny/nanny share options starting Feb/March 2014. Any good resources to start from? Information on the net seems all over the place with no real reviews/data to support the ads etc. Any recommendations?

A good resource for that kind of information is the local moms email lists. I am not sure where you live but I know there is one for Ballard, Queen Anne and Green Lake and there are probably others. Just do a search on Yahoo Groups for "Queen Anne Moms" (or whatever your neighborhood is) and it will have instructions on how to join, you usually have to provide proof of your address.

  • I live in Queen Anne.  And I am in the Queen Anne Mom and Dads yahoo.com group.

We actually started my son with a part-time nanny that I found on care.com, and the inlaws came into town for a couple of days a week to watch him while we worked.  I had to go back to work after my six week maternity leave.  And then we cleared the waitlist at Intergenerational Children's Center at Bayview Retirement Community.  He started there at 3 months.  And he did really good there.

    My review is on yelp.com:

There is another daycare down the hill from us called Young Child Academy.

It is one of the those things where it is good to set up an appointment and view the daycare.  If there is a waitlist and you like the daycare, then it is better to get on the waitlist.

The nanny was convenient because she came to our apartment.  But it was more stressful, because the tax thing --or W2-it is a little complicated.  And we did not have a contract with her.  So it was like we were trying to negotiate which days that she could work, and we were just hoping that she would show up.  And she did show up, and I gave her a good review.

The daycare was the best option-it was a set amount, and there was always staff to cover if one staff was on vacation or sick.  Downside was more if there was a sickness going through the daycare.  Or the daycare closes due to snow.  I really liked the parents that I met there, and it was fun to see him get bigger with the other kids that were close to his age.  Daycare had more social opportunities.  And I liked that he got to visit the grandmas and grandpas at the retirement center.
