Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Affordable convertible

My issue is dd is very tall, I want a seat that will last until 3 or 4 rf. DS was 46" at his 4 year well child. She's already taller than he was at her age. I can't afford the diono. My max is 180, so what do you recommend? Ease of use is important. I have a Saturn vue and DH has a cobalt. Her graco infant seat is a very tight fit for both cars, but especially the cobalt. So I need to keep that in mind. It's a long drive to the closest bru to put one in DH's car.
Sooo, Anyone have some suggestions? I like the britax roundabout 55, we had the regular roundabout for DS, but he out grew rf at just over two and the whole thing before 3. The 55 says it rf longer, but how tall would the kid be? It says 46, but that's not accurate in real life, ya know. Am I making any sense?

Re: Affordable convertible

  • If you're worried about height - you need one with high harness settings.  Of course, the Diono is probably the best - but pricey.  I believe most Britaxes do not have lower harness settings than some other choices.  The True Fit is probably a great choice - higher top harness heights than the britax, and probably in your price range.

  • Like PP said, you can find dionos cheaper than their original value... You just have to watch.  I stalked google shopping daily for about 3 weeks until I found an r120 on sale for $210 (I'll take it at $100 off!).

I also want DD rear facing until closer to 4 years old if possible.  I gave her grandparents the options of the following seats as well (if they didn't want to purchase the diono):

    Graco Size4Me 70

    Evenflo Triumph 65 LX

    Graco MyRide 65

I tried to research a good deal and found these to have the higher weight/height limits + easier installation.  I like what I see in the size4me online, but I've never seen it in person...

Switch out the Triumph for the Sureride. Triumph is short. The Size4Me/Headwise is considerably taller than the MyRide. Add the Guide 65 for a lo wearing at least 6-9 month shirts (that's about when it fits). Scratch Britax off the list.
  • The graco headwise/size4me/mysize (all the same shell, different names) is the tallest convertible on the market and not terribly pricey. It surprasses the diono by quite a bit actually. I have no idea about how it fits in cars (I haven't played with it).
