Just tried to read this to DD and couldn't even get through the first page. DH will have to read this one when she's older because she's going to wonder why Mommy is a sobbing mess. I wonder if its still hormones or just being a mom.
Why are so many childrens' books tearjerkers? I even tear up when I am reading him normal books that I had as a kid just because I remember my parents reading them to me.
The bedtime book I read to DS1 and now to DS2 with our bedtime routine is
i have honestly never read this book *collective gasp* and from the sound of it, and just reading a brief description of it on amazon, i'm pretty sure i wouldn't make it very far without crying...the description made me cry
i also can't believe i'm 34 and have never read or been read this book....
i can't do it either. my mom used to read it to me and my sister every night singing the song. so i couldn't even read it before DS without sobbing. just one of those childhood memories that mean so much to me. me and my sister are thinking of getting "i love you for ever" "i like you for always" tattooed. i have always said i would do the same thing my mom did & read that book every night, but i can't get through it...
I haven't even attempted reading it to him. Goodnight Moon and Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See are my safe bets.
We have the Rock-a-bye Elvis CD, and I'm a mess when "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You" comes on. We've been known to slow dance to it.

Welcome to the world my miracle, we prayed and prayed for you, and we can't believe you're here!
I don't own this book or have ever read it. I want it now, even though it seems to be a tear jerker. I googled it and love some of the lines from it. I read "guess how much I love you" everynight. I do get teary eyed at the end

I never read it until having DS1. It came out right before I turned 9 so I imagine that both of us are too old to have heard it as kids.

Re: I'll Love You Forever
Me too! Though this is one of a handful of books that I can't read to my babies, they're designated to daddy
I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

It isn't a tearjerker, but it is so sweet and beautiful illustrations. I definitely get choked up at times.
That book gets me every time, and I don't even objectively like it all that much!
I haven't even taken I'll Love You Forever off the shelf. I know I can't handle it.
