Recommend LO's lunch bag & cold lunch ideas

When I return to work after my maternity leave, DD will be in a new school that does not provide lunch (or refrigeration). So I need recommendations for a good insulated lunch bag. The second recommendation I am looking for is for cold lunch ideas. DD does not eat sandwiches (or bread products really) so that is out.

Thanks!

  • I'm not sure how much money you are looking to spend on a lunch bag but Thirty-one has really good insulated bags. I purchased a few actually for when I have to come back to work and pump. I didn't want to stick my breastmilk in the fridge here at work. I'd say chicken wraps, salads... if she is into hot stuff then I'd purchase a thermal and put in some chef boyarde, not sure what else. I'd also put ice packs to keep the salad cool and fresh. Maybe look online for some other ideas?

  • Almost all lunch bags are insulated now, but I usually use a thermos food jar  which keeps hot food warm and cold food cold.  If DD has a sandwich that requires it be kept cold, I'll either put an ice pack in there, or throw in a frozen gogurt, which keeps everything cold, but will defrost by lunch time.

Aside from sandwiches, we do chicken nuggets, pasta, sausage, hot dogs and beans, tacos, chilli, or whatever leftovers from dinner the night before, sometimes I'll cook up some scrambled eggs or pancakes or waffles.

  • What about quesadillas? We throw finely chopped meat and veggies in with the cheese and DD loves it.

Will LO do tortillas? Quesadillas, wraps, jelly rolls. Rolled up lunch meat without the bread? Pizza English muffins? Sides are easy- fruit, vegi sticks and Adam & Eve makes a fruit/vegi juice box. Brightening has a weekly thread on the PS board- cute lunch check in. I found DD2 will eat sandwiches if they are molded in cute shapes like a heart.
