Naptime Routine?

Anyone have a successful Naptime routine? Not a schedule but a set of things that let your LO know that it is time to nap?

We have a terrific bedtime routine down and DD has always been piety good going down at night but naps are totally erratic, done good and some awful. I'd like to make it easier in her by having a little routine that when she us tired it shows her that I see that and it is setting her up for good rest. Ideas? I currently swaddle, feed, white noise. Maybe a crib mobile thingy?

  • Well not that I'm any nap expert since DD only naps 30 min, but I bring her into her room and close blinds, turn on white noise, change diaper and then rock her a few mins until she's drowsy. She knows its nap time but sometimes puts up a fight. Then sleeps a whopping 30 mins.

  • I could have written this.  Short naps suck!! 30 mins tops over here too, sometimes 15.  I keep waiting for these 1.5-2 hour naps I hear so much about

  • Naps are crappy here, too. When I see his cues, I bring him in his room, put on the white noise, and put him in his swing. It takes him anywhere from 10-15 minutes to wind down and fall asleep. Then I get a whole 30 minutes to get stuff done before he's up again.

We usually play in the living room and once he starts yawning, I turn off the light (there is still plenty of light from the window, but it's a little darker), I sit him on my lap and read two books to him. After reading, I change his diaper, then carry him upstairs to his room (where the light is already off), turn on the noise machine, put him in his sleep sack, nurse/rock him till he's drowsy then I put him in his crib. He naps anywhere from 45 min to 2 hours. He use to fight me on naps and so far this routine works for him.

  • Yeah, I have no meaningful advice here either, considering my kid still naps on the living room couch propped up on boppy or on top of me. He sleeps great in his crib at night, but naps here still suck. The only way he'll nap longer than a half hour is if he's on my chest.

After I swaddle him, I lay on the floor next to him and read him a book. Then, I lay him in his crib, turn on his little seahorse, give him his lovey and sing a song to him.
