Just curious if anyone has any tips on getting household chores done while the kids are awake. I have only made dinner once this week b/c I can't keep DS occupied while I cook, and I'm WAY behind on laundry b/c I can't keep him out of the shoes when we are in the laundry room.
Re: Household chores
If I'm cooking in the kitchen, I let DD play with some plastic containers, measuring cups, wooden spoons, etc. She also has a little plastic shoebox size box with a lid. I'll put some little toys in it and hand it to her. She has fun trying to take of the lid, then taking out each toy & putting them back in...It keeps her busy!
Parker loves baby Einstein and will play in his jumper and watch it while I get things done. I keep talking to him through it too, so maybe that helps but he's fascinated with the puppets.
if I'm doing stuff in the kitchen, I'll put the baby gate up to keep in him there with me, and he's content to open and close the cabinets while I do what I need to do.
He likes to take the clothes out of the laundry basket for me, so sometimes I can fold while he "helps".
and I can always default to putting him in his high chair and giving him some snacks to munch on!

We put DS in the jumper/exersaucer if he has to stay out of the kitchen (i.e. using the oven), but other than that I give him bowls and wooden spoons to play with or he has a lot of toys in the living room.
I'll also open the front door so he can look outside through the storm door. He doesn't really pay too uch attention to the TV other than sports.
i usually just let him crawl around and move him as needed. We have babyproofed to the point he won't get seriously hurt, but most of the stuff he gets into now is more of an annoyance to me than anything that he will get hurt with.
