Well Brant has his SIXTH mutha fluckin ear infection, this time both ears are infected. His pedi is thinking that it may be time to look into getting him some tubes. Thoughts, opinions?

Re: Tubes.

  • Poor guy! My friends son had tubes put in when he was young after a lot of ear infections. Her pedi suggested a second set of tubes so she went and saw another ENT Dr, he asked if he normally cried and flipped out at the appointments and she said yes and he said well its likely he didn't have that many ear infections because crying like that will cause inflammation in the ears. So whenever she suspected an ear infection, she took him to the ENT and sure enough he only had like one out of 5 times. He also grew out of it finally by 2. The ENT Dr also so Pedis over diagnose ear infections all the time. Definitely a chance that that's not the case for you, but I just wanted to give you some insight. Maybe just go to a consultation with an ENT and see what they say? Also, binkies are thought to cause ear infections.

  • His pedi did say something about pacifier use but only in the long term and since he just uses one for naps, she thought that his isnt causing them. He has been to Urgent Care for three of them so its not just his pedi diagnosing them or I could definitely see your point. I think I am going to go ahead and make an appt and just see what he says.

  • Oh yeah, then I'd take him. My nephew has also had two sets put in and his adenoids taken out. The first place they went for his tubes did a shitt job. So if you can "shop" around doctors. Good luck!

Eta forgot you can't say shitt

  • A few friends had LO who had tubes, and it made a huge difference.  One of the little boys in DD1's daycare was really quiet, and then got tubes and it's like he was finally able to hear his own voice and it made a huge difference in his speech too!

  • Does he eat dairy?  I had tubes when I was little and we figured out later that my dairy sensitive caused ear infections.  Weird I know.  Raylan got one just before he turned 6 mo.  He also had minor eczema on his face, so both combined led me to try him on soy.  He obviously prefers it and hasn't had an ear infection since.  Maybe give it a try?

Huh! I may try that although everything I read says not to give boys soy. He is EFF so I think he does get dairy.

  • Oh yeah, my nephew that had the tubes twice and adenoids removed has speech problems because of his ears. His situation was similar to PP's.

I read a lot and I talked to my pedi about it and decided to go with soy, obviously a personal choice you have to make.  Yes, regular formula has dairy.  Worth checking out maybe.

My brother was FF soy.  Granted, this was 24 years ago hahaha.... I have no real input on this, as R is a girl and hasn't had any ear infections haha.  GL! Hope the little dude feels better!
