Im lost on food

Lo eats well, and we do at least 2 big meals a day, but Im lost on how much to feed him. He doesnt complain when I dont give him a ton and he will polish off a tray-full of food. Meal size doesnt affect sleep.

So, if his cues are hard to follow, how do I know whats enough or too much?

How much are you giving your LO at each meal?

Re: Im lost on food

  • I make my daughters baby food but I went to Gerber's website to get an idea of how much of what she should be eating.  I'm not rigidly following it but I am using it as a guide.... Check it out :) My general rule is start small because obviously you can always give more as opposed to stuffing them full LOL

I put a bit of everything on his tray. If he eats it all fairly quickly or without playing, I give him more. If he slows down and starts to play, I give him a bit more of whatever he ate the most of. If he doesn't take it, we're done.

Honestly, he just takes what he wants and I don't worry about it. Some days he has a couple bites and throws the rest on the floor. I always think he'll want a snack later for sure and he never does. Some days he eats a tonne, some days he picks at his meals. Whatever he wants is fine by me!

  • I just provide healthy food and keep giving DD food until she stops eating/starts throwing it on the floor.  She knows when she is full and when to stop eating.

  • We taught DD sign language for all done so she tells us when she is full. If she sits there with food in front of her and she is not hungry. It usually ends up on the floor or in her hair. I just keep giving her more food until she signs or stops eating. She knows when she is done.

  • My daughter will darn near two fist food in her mouth.  So, when she starts getting antsy in her seat, that's our sign she's done.
