Issues pooping

Ok my didn't poop for a few days but then after taking her temperature rectally pooped the mightest poop I've ever seen come out of her.  I had to go through 4 diapers in 3 minutes.  It was nuts.  Anyway, that was monday and now it's thursday night... she had one little poop since then.  She has been fussy and so I tried the rectal thermometer again and she layed onthe changing table grunting and fussing afterwards.  Then she got real upset and was crying and still grunting like she had to poop but couldn't.  Anyone else having these issues?  Oh we started rice cereal a month ago and oatmeal yesterday.  Is it the solid foods?  I also Breast feed... no formula.  Thoughts and suggestions?

    It probably is the solid food.  You could reduce.  You can try an 1-2 oz of prune juice or prune juice/water 50:50.  Don't do the thermometer too much because this can prevent your LO from being able to do it herself.  Our doc told us she could prescribe something if prune juice wouldn't work, but we seem to be past the worst of it.

    Grains are really hard to digest and are known to cause digestive issues like this.  If you're doing solids, I would recommend doing real food.  Just go straight to fruits, veggies, and meat.  Save the grains for later when their system is a little more developed.

    Rice is known to be binding. I would stick with the oatmeal. Also prunes can help.

    Rice in particular can be binding.  I would scale back on the cereals and try fruits like prunes as pp mentioned.
