9 mo appt

Rylan had his well check today... 22 lbs 6.5 oz and 29 and a quarter inches long! I coulda swore my guy was over 30 inches by now but he is close! 75 percentile for both height and weight. w00t w00t!! Dr says physically his development looks great.

Ok now in seriousness here, WDYT? Dr says he should be sleeping till at least 6 so we should dream feed him around 1030 when we go to bed. He is teething like a mother and has been waking up at 4 after going to bed at 7 to 730ish. He hasn't been going back to sleep after we feed him at 4 when he wakes up but this morning after the Motrin and teething tabs didn't work we gave him a dose of Zantac, which he hasn't had in a month, and he fell asleep within minutes. The dr seemed to think it was coincidence and not a reflux problem since 3 teeth are breaking through and he hasn't shown other reflux symptoms in a month. Personally, for starters, I think R sleeping from 7 to 4 is great considering he was getting up around 12 for awhile. This morning, after the Zantac, he fell back asleep till 7. Even better IMO. I'm torn though as to whether his issue really is teething like the dr says and the Zantac helping just was by chance or if his stomach really was bothering him. The dr also said that if he wakes at 4 we should just leave him till 5. Problem is he escalates to screaming real quick. I was about ready to kick the dr to the curb and then she said "of course, I'm not at home, so you need to do what works for you." I'm fine with doing exactly what we did last night, but I can't help but wonder if he really does have some GI issue. I can give it till this bout of teething calms down and then see if he gets any better to rule out reflux as well. Am I being crazy or is the dr being crazy?

Re: 9 mo appt

  • When teething salvia gets acidic and sometimes yes, their bellies hurt. Stuff don't agree with their tummies, swapped air, whatever. If he's not shown any GI issues inn a month, I don't think his reflux could have came back enough to be causing him enough pain to need extra meds. I would wait it out.
But the opposite could be true, the acidic salvia is what's causing the reflux to conger back. I know that's the case with my nephew. He's mostly over reflux but because he's teething. He's started spitting up again.
I would still wait it out.

I'd definitely give it until R is done this teething. 7 to 4 seems great to me, except I personally wouldn't want to get up that early.

Jayson normally goes to bed at 7:30, wakes up at 5ish for a bottle, and back to bed until around 7.

  • Try it again tonight.  I don't think the zantac is hurting.  Liam does 7-4 every night but goes right back to sleep, after he gets fed, till 7.
