shopping cart covers

So I just started looking at shopping cart covers. DS is really starting to hate this car seat unless he is actually in the car so I thought a cover would be great so in another month or so he can just sit in the shopping cart.

Any recommendations on brands or features? TIA ladies!

Re: shopping cart covers

  • I don't have any recommendations, but I would consider looking for a used one, if that's your style. I bought one and never used it with my first. Definitely won't be doing that again this time around. Also, if you shop at Target a lot, and your Target has that newer plastic-style cart, your cover may not fit. That's what happened with me...

On the plus side, most stores now have antibacterial wipes for carts. I just wipe them down and put the kiddos in and we're good to go.

I got one at my baby shower. It's just a regular run of the mill cover but I'm pretty sure it was 25 or 30 bucks. I saw the same one at Ross for 15. So if you're going to buy one check out Ross or Marshall's first.

  • I second the idea of not spending much. I never used one. I just wipe with anti-bacterial wipes. Less hassle. I never really understood the point of them.

I know that I have seen them in places like TJ Maxx and Marshalls ... probably cheap there although I never really looked.

  • Granted I didn't use mine for long, but I did like that it was a comfier seat area for my DD and every surface was covered. It's more coverage than just wiping down the handle bar, etc. - as we all know kids will touch anything/anywhere. Her bare legs stayed clean, no pinched fingers/legs, and her toys, sippy, etc. all stayed cleaner than if they were rattling around in the cart seat without a cover.

I don't remember offhand what kind I have, but it is big enough to cover the Target carts, and it works welll on highchairs at restaurants. I got a blue/green/ teal one that worked for my DD and will work well for my DS this time.

They're a little bit of a pain, but for a short period of babyhood, I think they are worth it. Read reviewers online before you choose which one you want to buy - even if you are buying yours secondhand (which I recommend as well).

Thanks for the input ladies...I usually am not too worried about germs...I wondered if I should have a cart cover more for his comfort. At what age did you or will you put your LO in the cart instead of keeping them in the car seat?

We got one at the baby shower, but don't know the brand. I haven't used it yet, but like PP said, it's more about all over coverage IMO. Plus, I don't want my child's skin absorbing whatever chemicals are in the wipes.

  • I just looked back at pics of DS1. He was 6 months old when we started using the seat. He started sitting on his own at 4 months 3 weeks (although not steady at it until a month later.)

I don't know what I will be doing with DS2 because DS1 still sits in the cart seat. Those big ones for multiple kids are a PIA.

I used this one with DS1 i think around 4ish months. was thinking of pulling it out for DS2, but then I wouldn't know where to put DS1!

  • I got one for DS1 for like 7 euros and used it maybe 10 times, it was easier to use the stroller or just wipe down the cart. I believe it was a Safety First cover

Agreed. Easier, and minimal germ exposure is not always a bad thing (maybe an unpopular opinon??)

  • I LOVE my Buggy Bag cart cover. I got it a couple years ago off of Babysteals.com so I didn't pay a fortune for it. They regularly have some sort of cart cover on there and you can probably search their old postings for one. I will tell you I still use it with DD today.

  • They have to sit pretty steady on their own to go in the shopping cart seat.
