To groom or not to groom

As I'm starting to have trouble clipping my toenails and shaving my legs, I'm curious how many women keep their girly bits groomed during pregnancy. I am seriously considering letting it all go au natural for the rest of my pregnancy, which will certainly be scary for my OB, lol. How about others out there? Do you keep up the southern grounds?

I'm hoping to keep up with everything!  It's been so many years, I'm hoping I can do it by memory... or feel around...  or if DH is lucky, he can help ;)

  • My plan is to either have DH take care of helping me or go to a professional. I mean every girl deserves spa days, especially if they are pregnant.

  • I have been getting brazilians for about 7 years now and will continue to do so.  I also added half leg because I was getting bad razor burn which I've never gotten before.  I would go batty if I let it go wild down there.  *shudder*

This might be a weird thought but wouldn't it be easier for the doctor to stitch you up if you're nice and clean down there?

Also, my wax lady told me that you have to be careful with bikini/braz waxes when you're pregnant because some women develop varicose veins down there... yikes.

    The joys of pregnancy...

  • I'm planning on using a mirror in the shower if possible.  My backup is to let H do it, but with the way he butchers his face, I don't know if I want to let him down there.

  • I will never find it acceptable for me to let my lady bits go all jungle. Whether it's me or a salon doing it, it's going to happen.

  • I kept it well groomed down there during my last pregnancy and I plan to this time around too. It's already getting difficult but I just hate the thought of having a jungle in my nether regions.

Mom to Cam and Al, now expecting baby number 3, August 2016. Praying for lots of sticky baby dust!
  • I think I will have dh help tidy it up as i get close to my due date since I feel like it will be easier to clean up the bloody mess of after giving birth. As for now I go for it and hope I'm still in one piece at the end.
  • I have been a bit lazy about keeping my wax appts since getting pregnant. I recently had DH groom it with his hair clippers just to keep it short enough that I wouldn't be mortified having the OB around there. But he did a half-azz job and I have already informed him that if I don't get a wax before delivery he is going to have to take his time and do it right next time!

If you do get waxed, just beware.  I let mine go for a few months (kept it trimmed a bit, but missed an appointment) and it was SO MUCH WORSE than normal.  Normally it doesn't hurt me, but this time?  WOWZA.  I will never skip an appointment again!

  • I am one for grooming, but last week I found out the challenges associated with self grooming and pregnancy. I am currently grooming by feel right now and not a real fan. I think in the next few weeks I am going to fit the spa or have hubby hop inthe shower.

  • I will keep mine groomed. I couldn't imagine just letting it get wild! Once I can't do it anymore, DH will be helping. I've never been waxed before, but I would love to try. I just don't know where to go or what to ask for!

I guess I am the odd one out, I do my legs, but bikini has been trimmed only since I got pregnant, I get really bad razor burn when pregnant and although I can epilate my legs just fine, I don't have the energy to do my bikini line too, also I am planning on having electrolysis on my bikini line, and waxing and epilating before hand can make the process less affective as the hairs doesn't all grow back at the same time (actually I was planning to do it before I got pregnant again, but didn't quite get round to it in time LOL).

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • I only shave down there about once a month. I only get one day out of a shave and can't reshave until it is pretty grown out unless I want wicked razor burn. I tried a Brazilian and OUCH! No sanks. I havr also heard waxing is much more painful while pregnant from the increase in bloodflow. Eeps I can't imagine it being more painful than the first time, I would not take my chances! Before DD was born I shaved it clean though. I didn't want to deal with blood and hair either. That makes me cringe just thinking about it. I might be close to done shaving for now since my belly is so sensitive this time. Even my legs or hand touching it slightly makes me want to hurl, so bending over isn't much of an option.

  • I will definitely be grooming throughout the duration of my pregnancy. I cannot imagine letting myself get all Woodstock down there.

I'm just going to try to keep doing it myself or go to a salon. I think it's super strange to ask your husband to help you hack off your pubes.

  • I have no problem with letting it go wild most of the time, but not during swimsuit season! I will most likely continue to get regular bikini waxes, and add in a full leg when it starts to get tricky to shave my legs.
  • Painting my toenails was a little tough this morning, but I haven't had any trouble shaving my legs or "southern grounds" lol.  I was actually just thinking in the shower this morning about how some women on this board have started having trouble with grooming but I've had no issues.  Then again, I've always sort of been a blind shaver down there.  When I need to I just suck in a bit and look over my tummy.

  • From the title I thought this was wedding related. Lol. Silly nonfunctioning brain. I am going to do all I can to maintain downtown. I have been doing it for so long I can't imagine letting it go. I will wax if I can't take care of myself in the future. It is already getting hard to see everything but I am sure I will find a way

I get Brazilians and  I got one last month that was the most painful ever!  I had missed a few months - bad idea!  The waxer said it is much worse when you are pregnant and the best bet its to try to keep regular appointments.  Also be aware ingrown hairs are much more likely during pregnancy.

Shaving my legs is starting to get harder and I may have to wax them by mid summer.

  • The sight of my naturally occurring business is a lot less scary than the red and bumpy hot mess that happens when I try to shave.  I've let it all hang out for a long time now.  DH doesn't care.  He prefers me to be comfortable.  And I'm sure my OB has seen worse. Not to knock others for their grooming choices, I just have suuuuuuuper sensitive skin and it's just not worth the pain to shave.

I do get a few bikini waxes in the summer just to tidy up the sides so I don't look all sasquatch in a swimsuit.  I make sure to tip the waxing lady very well.

  • I can still shave my legs no problem, but that's about it. I have never waxed before, but I think I'm going to look into it because I want to feel safe wearing a bathing suit this summer! No scraggly escapees, allowed!

  • I'll keep it tidy myself, I can never ever picture DH helping out with that.  I've got to keep some things a little bit of a mystery.
  • Shaving my legs is easy compared to my lady parts....I just did it this week and man did i have a ton of braxton hicks not to mention a hard time seeing.....I am going to try to keep up with it this pregnancy...with dd towards the end i had to let it go although i did have dh help me one time and boy was that scary....

  • I have been grooming probably once a month by feeling down there and shaving but I also use a shaving spray afterward that I got from a sex toy party, it helps with the bumps. I also shave my legs once a month. I have gotten brazillians in the past but have not since being pregnant. I think it would be nice to get a complete wax before going to the hospital but I'm having a c section so I may be fine going without, I'm afraid it will hurt too much bc of the hormone sensitivity and the sensitivity down there right now. Because I'm having a c section I'm more worried about having unpedicured toes and nasty hair for too long at the hospital.

  • Groom.

My legs barely grow any hair  (I only have to shave every two weeks or so) and I don't bother myself with manicures and pedis.

Ever since I started shaving the lady bits, I can't bear to have them grow out.  It's so uncomfortable and prickly.  The plan is to keep up with the routine even if I have to bring in backup (aka hubby).

Same here! Thankfully all my years of lasering (i'm Greek, it had to be done), have left me with nearly nothing so I'm well prepped.

This.  Hubby wouldn't have me trim him down there so I want to keep the grooming business discreet and a constant pleasant surprise for him.  He'll see enough in the delivery room I'm sure.  i think I'll need to make an appt for another brazillian as unlike some ladies on this thread, I can't just suck in my belly to see my lady parts. Haven't for a while now.  the only way I can see is a full length mirror now and that's not gonna cut it when it comes to brazillian.  I hate going to salons though since they never do as good a job as I do...

  • I shaved as normal last pg and I plan to do the same this time. Even when I could no longer see a bit of my vag, I still shaved it. Just felt around, went slow, and hoped for the best! I'm sure it wasn't the greatest job and some spots were missed but I didn't cut myself open so that's a plus :-D

  • I shave my bikini line and the under side by feel when I get too big. I also keep a pair o scissors in te bathroom to keep everything trimmed back. When I get close to delivery, I always take dh's beard trimmer to the whole thing. I don't shave it, because I don't want to have to be itchy when it comes back in, but I also don't like the mess that long hair and post partum bleeding make.

  • I couldn't imagine going all summer without keeping things neat and tidy down there. With the heat and the excess sweat and vaginal fluids that occur with pregnancy, then you add a full bush to that...yuck! I can trim by feel alone or I can just use a mirror if need be. DH would even help me if I asked him to. Going without grooming is just not an option for me. I like things neat and clean.

I always have keep things nice down there but since I have been pregnant I have been letting it get all crazy! Dh mentioned the other day that its getting a little outta sorts down there. And at this point I can barely see down there so I may have him do some trimming for me. I'm a little scared to get waxed after seeing my friend get an allergic reaction to the wax!!

  • Def not going to let it all grow out lol I'm gonna try my best to do it by memory or maybe hit the salon for a little help
  • I think letting it all go natural would drive me bonkers. I had my first 'feel it out' session this week....I THINK it went well...for all I know I could have Picasso'd my lady bits and I'd never know unless DH said something! lol! I couldn't not do it though....especially this time of year....I wouldn't want anything poking out of places they shouldn't be!

  • After what happened yesterday, I am considering going au natural. I am usually trimmed per DH but yesterday I said eff it and tried to shave myself. yeah I missed like 4 spots since I cant see anything down there anymore. Oh well. Personally, I feel like its more sanitary to keep it clean shaven. I hate when I have excess CM and it gets (TMI) in the hair and ick. Thats just me though.
  • imagescatteredtrees:
    It kind of freaks me out how many people are going to ask their H to shave their bits.nbsp;

Why? He's my husband. If he can see me naked and have sex with me he can certainly help me trim/shave. I do the same for him.

It's more odd to me that anyone wouldn't ask their SO to help.
