C-sections

2nd time C-section

Anyone else have two C-sections? What was your experience like the 2nd time around, healing, pain, etc. and taking care of your first child? Did you need help for the first 2 weeks or so?

Re: 2nd time C-section

  • I'm in the same boat as you.  :)  I will be watching your replies as well!

  • The second time was much easier for me as well.  The first was an emergency c-section and I had to stay bed ridden (sp?) for 24 hours after so that probably kept my recovery slower.  This time I was up that night and released from the hospital after 2 nights instead of 3.

  • I am so glad to see these positive replies!  So often the posts seem to lean toward the very worst c-section experiences.  I had a great experience with my first, but have been wondering if my second would be the same, especially since I will be adding in a tubal ligation.

Anyone have a tubal after a RCS and willing to share the differences in experiences?

  • I had a much easier time with my RCS, and I had a tubal too. My first c section was after 1.5 days of labor, so I was exhausted, terribly swollen, and had complications.

The RCS went very very smoothly. I felt pretty good afterwards and was walking a little the next day. The tubal took no time at all and made no difference in my recovery. That said, I still needed help for the first couple of weeks out, and did take painkillers. I could not lift my two year old.

But all in all much easier recovery!

  • I've had 4. All of my sections have been pretty much the same in terms of recovery, although I will say that my 4th was my easiest. I was in better shape, and I really knew what to expect.

My DH is home with me for the first week. After that, I'm on my own with all the kids.

  • I'm 4 days post-op from my 2nd c/s.  Both of mine were scheduled, and so far this one is worse than my first.  I feel like I have more pain walking this time around compared to last time.

I had a RCS and tubal ligation on 5/8.  This surgery was sooooo much easier than the first.  My first was unscheduled and I had a difficult time with the anesthesia making me sick and being in considerable pain post op.  This time was a breeze.  They did have difficulty getting my spinal in but other than that it was good.  This time they knew that I get nauseous and they took measures to prevent that.  I didn't have the severe shaking that I had with the first.  Pain was on a level of 3-4 / 10 vs 11/10 with my first.  I was up later that day walking around and only had to take more pain medication later that night.  I did get to leave the next day after only staying 1 night.  I did take Percocet for the first 3 days as well as motrin. I still occasionally take the motrin but mostly for cracked nipples from breastfeeding.  Good luck!
