Success after IF

6w1d...is this normal???

Today I went for my first u/s. Our little one measured at 6w1d, just as I expected. He said that it was the size of a blueberry. But,  what I didn't expect  is that there was no heartbeat or anything in the sac. Is this normal?? My OB did the u/s and said that it was too early to see much of anything and this was normal. But, I was sure that I had read that the HB can be seen this early. Anyone know if this is normal??

Thanks!!

Re: 6w1d...is this normal???

  • My re doesn't do u/s until 7 wks because that is when you should see a heartbeat. So yes, I think it's normal but it's impossible not to worry. I hope you can relax a little.

It's normal.  Sometimes you can see a hb that early, but not always.  Mine were both at 6w5d.  Those 5 days make a huge difference.  I know it's hard, but try not to worry about it.  Measuring on size is great news.

Although it's possible to see it that early, it is the exception. It can show up anytime between 6 and 7 weeks, depending on how soon implantation occurred. Nothing to worry about at this point. Good luck!

  • Sometimes a hb can be seen that early, but sometimes it is too early. You really are right on the line when the heartbeat might just be starting in the next few days. A lot also depends on the quality of the u/s machine.

  • Totally normal. I had one empty sac at 6w2d, went back a week later and found 2 sacs and 2 heart beats.
