High-Risk Pregnancy

Placenta Abruption, maybe?

Well looks like I've landed myself back here during this pregnancy again.  Tonight I woke up with a pool of blood and passed a clot the size of a baseball.  I went to the hospital and they said it was the placenta I passed, not the baby.  I cried so hard when I saw that baby moving around on the screen.

Now I'm not sure what is going to happen as we are stationed on a very remote island in the middle of the Atlantic.  I go see my NP later (hopefully) to get some answers.  I'm going to push to be sent back stateside with my parents.  I have an 18 month old that I have to take care of and that doesn't work well with bed rest.  So hopefully they can send us back quickly.

I'll update once I get more news from my clinic later today.

  • Im so sorry you had such a scary night! I too have a partial placental abruption. Mine occured at 14.5 weeks and I've been on mbr since. I will be 21 weeks tomorrow and I now have a large sch where the abruption occured. I have a ds who will be 15 months in a week, so I know how scary and daunting the whole bedrest thing can seem! I'll be praying you are transferred back near family soon so they can help you out! Make sure you try to get as much rest as possible and avoid dr google! Speaking from my experience, there are so many variables and unknowns, it really isnt worth all the stress of thinking on the "what ifs". Wishing you the best!
  • Thank you all so much. It confirmed it is a partial placental abruption due to a low lying placenta. Just going to take it day by day. On a good note I did measure big at 14w1d!

  • Sending good vibes your way. I had a partial placental abruption at 11 weeks due to SCH. I'm now 34 weeks and have a scheduled induction at 37 weeks.

This gives me so much hope you have no idea!  Thank you for sharing.  I'm so scared and I hate that they call it a threatened miscarriage.  The hemorage has already stopped thank goodness and they said it was all due to a low lying placenta which hopefully should move up on its own.  Just have to hope the placental abruption doesn't get worse.  Have you been on bed rest your entire pregnancy?
