Registry - stroller advice?

DH runs marathons and insists on a jogging stroller. We live in a suburban area and walk a lot on paved trails together and around the neighborhood, I researched the uppababy vista stroller and fell in love with it (the bassinet, the undercariage storage, the extending handle bars for my uber-tall DH, the ability to make it a double, etc.), except the pricetag. Others are telling me I'll need an umbrella stroller eventually. I do NOT want to register for 3 strollers! Advice?

Re: Registry - stroller advice?

  • We have only used our nice fancy jogging stroller once.  We aren't runners but like to go on long walks through local parks.  I feel so bad for it (the stroller).  In my brief experience with  it-- I honestly found it bulky and cumbersome.

I lived for my snap and go.  I cried when DD out grew her infant carrier and we now exclusively use our umbrella stroller.  Just sharing my personal experience.

But, I don't think there is anything wrong w. registering for 3 strollers.  If you think you will use it-- add the jogging stroller.

Also, I lol'd at undercarriage.  Bridesmaids, anyone?

  • People who aren't really runners who get jogging strollers often find then to be less useful than they expected. People who are serious runners, however, tend to find them essential. I purchased a very expensive jogging stroller, and consider it one of the absolute best baby purchases I made. It's got 2,000 miles on it, still is in GREAT shape, and has been worth every penny. If you want your hubby to be able to take LO out for runs, let him have the fancy jogging stroller. As long as he's really going to use it, I think it'll be worth it to BOTH of you... if he's running with LO, you're getting baby free time!

As for the other two strollers, I say don't worry about registering for something you might need "eventually". Different parents/kids use strollers very differently, and it's hard to know what will work for you until LO is actually here. That makes it hard enough to find the "right" stroller for when they're tiny. I'd wait to buy a smaller stroller for later... if/when you find that you actually need it and have a better idea of what will work for you.

  • I don't have much more to say than what's already been said about the big strollers.  But I know that personally, we didn't get DD2 an umbrella stroller until she was almost 3.  And it's been used maybe 10 times.  That was money I could have saved.  I'd hold off on the umbrella stroller and just get one when/if you decide you need one.
  • If you wouldn't buy yourself two strollers, then register for only one. I agree with not registering for things you will need eventually.

    I agree. Our
Chariot is the most used, longest lasting out of all the strollers we've had. Personally I like the Vista, but if you don't want a collection of strollers I'd probably go for the Cruz. Half way between an umbrella and full size, and you wouldn't need an umbrella stroller (I find those pointless, personally). With a jogger then you end up with a full size stroller when you need it.
  • I am not a runner, but I absolutely love my BOB stroller. I can maneuver it one handed with the baby in it while holding my daughter's hand and walking through busy mall. I got mine on Craigslist, which could be an alternative to registering for one.

FWIW, I have the Vista, and I adore it.  We used the bassinet instead of a PnP as a safe place to put DD for the first 2-3 months in addition to using the stroller for walks.  We use the stroller all the time, we've traveled with it, it's incredibly easy, and I can't say enough good things about it.  :)

To answer your question, though, OP, I wouldn't register for the umbrella stroller just yet.  You won't want it for at least a year, and depending on how you use the stroller, you may not want it for 2-3 years.  By that time, there will be lots of new models and features, and you may find something else you like more.

  • Thanks Ladies, I'll hold off on the umbrella.

I'm considering the Jeep Overland Limited Jogging stroller, it's less expensive than the other joggers I've looked at. I'd consider the cruz, but, I haven't tested it out, I feel like the vista comes with a lot more features and they're both expensive...

Any other brands that are still super nice and stylish that are less $$$?
