Light sleeper

Does anyone else have a light sleeper? From the beginning we made noise while he slept so he wouldn't be a light sleeper, but realized after two weeks that that didn't matter. Sudden noises stir him. Naps during the day are nearly impossible.

Luckily he's a terrific sleeper at night except the last two nights he's changed. He's gone to bed around 10. He sleeps in a bassinet in our room. As soon as we walked in the room hours later for bed he instantly wakes up and starts screaming! And it is a weird, sad sounding scream/cry. He also did this today while he was eating and the dog barked. It's a very sad cry.

I wonder what this could be about? Anyone experience anything like this? Do I simply just have a light sleeper like myself on my hands?

We don't have a light sleeper but have you tried moving him to his own room?  We keep a fan on so their is constant white noise, not sure if it helps but even if he stirs from a new noise he goes right back to sleep.

  • It sounds like he is not getting into a deep sleep for some reason.  Does he have reflux or gas?  My son has days where he is like this...I am hoping he is outgrowing it because he has been sleeping well the last 2 days!  He does have a lot of gas and spit up (pedi said reflux but I have not put him on anything).

He doesn't show the signs of reflux. He does get gassy at times but that doesn't seem to be the case lately. The only way to calm him down is putting him on the boob! He doesn't eat, just comfort ducks. Hmmm

I'm thinking I'll move him to his room tonight...

Sounds normal to me! They go through so many phases and changes with sleep over the first year. Just when you think you have something figured out it changes! That's how it was with my son anyway. Definitely get a white noise machine. We love ours. I think it's Homedics from Amazon. Plays an ocean sound and really helps cover up any little noises that might wake them. My son was a very light sleeper in the beginning too, he's now 3 and sleeps through his newborn sister crying lol!
